Fac Variation and Which large calibre rifle?

Ok, so I’ve been invited to go and do some long range shooting at Eskdalemuir range in July (range is over a mile, 1750m ish). The lad I’m going with said I can borrow one of his rifles but it also looks like I’ll get some deer stalking later in the year so I’m considering trying to get a...

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

Going off the back of the recent news from Defra and reading the current thread about it it would be interesting to see exactly how much land people where actually considering taking out of production. Thers a lot complaining about not being able to enter more than 25% into the 6 options that...

    17HMR rifle recommendations?

Ok, so just on with sorting my fac out and looking to get a 17HMR for vermin control (crows, pigeons, rabbits etc). And before anyone starts I don’t need a debate on whether or not I’ll a fac granted or not as already had the office out to check our land which he’s passed up to .243 and it’s the...

    Grain dryer moisture sensor

Anyone fitted an aftermarket moisture sensor to their grain dryer? Or a recommendation for a basic system. Our current dryer just works on grain temp then have to keep sampling the batch, trouble is air temp and moisture content means it’s a constant juggling act! Thanks

    Lexion 600+

My Lexion 560 is pretty much on its limit capacity wise especially in a year like this! So while it’s raining (again) I was browsing the internet looking at bigger combines and found a Lexion 600+ TT that’s not a million miles away and isn’t silly money but it’s got around 2000 drum hours on it...

    Grain store floor screed?

Got a building that we’ve had to start using as a temporary grain store and the floor is quite rough. It was never built as a grain store and the floor is from a previous building that was knocked down, built over and added too so the floor is a little uneven on the joints etc. I know in an...

Is this such a bad idea?

What’s people’s thoughts about getting someone in office at the NFU willing to put farmers first rather than towing the corporate line? Would this be such a bad idea?

    First fight tomorrow.

I thought it my be interesting to share my weight loss and fitness journey over the last 9 months. I made the decision last June that it was time to shed a few pounds, my pants where getting tight and going into harvest when I spend most of my days sat on my ass in a combine snacking this...

What did you build over Christmas 2022

Well it wouldn’t be Christmas without the “What did you build” thread now would it! So here’s a fresh one for 2022 👍🏼. Going to be pretty much a star wars theme this year as the Mrs said I’ve no room left for any more technic ☹️😂. So this year’s offering (up to now😉🤫) Little fella couldn’t...

    Trail Camera legality’s?

Ok, bit of a long story but here goes - Have a couple of fields with footpaths near the outer edge, most of the field is separated from the path by a ditch or hedge etc but some of the locals like to cut across and walk along the inside of the the field for some reason. I can’t really stop them...

    Parking like a tw@!

So, Rolled up at the yard this morning just after 7 to be greeted with this! Why do people think they can just abandon their vehicles anywhere? Now fortunately we do have another access but it’s on a blind bend in a national speed limit which means if your turning right you take your life into...

    Ploughing on wide tyres, 710’s?

Anyone managing to plough on 710’s and make a decent job? Basically, I’ve got another JD6215 coming (on 710’s) for autumn cultivation work and was thinking it would probably handle the plough a lot easier than the 6630 (on 600’s) Plough is a Kuhn 121 multi master on slatted boards, it’s...

Which muck spreader for 24m with rate control/weigh cells?

So, with the price of bagged fert I am seriously considering trying some digestate especially with the relaxing of autumn applications! The digestate will be in cake form so can be applied with a muck spreader but it ideally needs to be done accurately. Currently we’re running two10t Richard...

    Growing Hybrid Rye for AD?

I’ve been approached about growing some rye for an AD plant. We’d grow it and they would whole crop it June/July time which could work well as it would help with our storage. So, my questions are - Anyone else growing any? Pros/Cons? Do the figures stack up? What’s a realistic whole crop...

    Header trailer wheel rim.

Anyone know where I could find one of these wheel rims? Had one crack up the other day and nearly fall off! Luckily spotted it in the yard before setting off. Could do with a spare anyway as it’s a pain if you get a flat on the road! Thanks Ps they’re just plain roller bearings not tapers.

    Standing crop value?

Ok so long story short, got a neighbour who’s currently not to well and I’ve heard he maybe selling his barley as a standing crop as he’s currently not physically well enough to deal with the pressure of harvest and handling into store. Before I go and see him is it worth the gamble the way...

    Spraying milk on crops

Just been reading the post on Twitter from chap whom sprayed milk on some pasture to give it a boost and promote soil bacteria. Think the rate was 10L/ha (100L/ha water rate). Pictures look good compared to the next pasture that didn’t get sprayed. Has anyone tried this on arable crops? Maybe a...

What type of bird is this?

Can anyone tell me what type of bird this is? It’s not one I’ve seen knocking about before. After a bit of Googling the closest one I can find is a fieldfare? But probably way off the mark 🤦🏻‍♂️ But also got goldfinch, (edit: gray wagtail🤦🏻‍♂️) two pairs of oyster catchers and half a dozen...

    Fencing around a pub

Ok, so we have a pub that backs onto one of our fields and been having issues with kids trampling the crops while there parents sit in the beer garden getting p!ss*d! There’s also a footpath on the opposite side of the field so people tend to cut access to access the pub in summary rather than...
