It really does my head in, that type of attitude! They're sitting in their nice warm tractor cab listening to the radio doing field 'work', while the suppliers of their store cattle/lambs battle away trying to get them out/keep them alive!
You need to speak to your vet. You shouldn't need to treat with blanket antibiotics, particularly when their use is being restricted to prevent resistance developing.

Think about it! Slaughtering on any scale is done inside a building. Would you want to be shooting a beast with a free bullet to have it possibly ricocheting round inside four walls?? Captive bolts prevent this but for sheep slaughter in a slaughterhouse with a decent throughput, electrical...
Think I've seen that on the TV. They put a slit in the belly then reach in and pull the Aorta off the backbone. The sheep dies almost instantly and all the blood is contained in the abdomen for later use.
Disappointingly still a lot of ignorance on here from some farmers about the slaughter side of the job, which leads to them making ill-founded claims about animal welfare which , if picked up by the vegan lobby, could be used as a stick to beat us all with.
