Pity they used a similar name , the assumption is they are another trading arm of MVF , like Bridgemans , Nichols etc , a different name would have made a clear distinction, I understand prob why they did it but could be tarred with same brush if all goes south with other firm
only reason i would vax now is to cover selling lambs as breeders in first year ,but even then after weaning (so you dont get an outbreak around sale day)
thanks all good suppliers noted above , was just one of those days we had sheep ready to vax , had vaccine in fridge at home but wrong amounts , needed a 50ml to finish numbers without opening a 100ml , (good video online about keeping opened bottles in fridge and how it goes off very quickly)...
uses some french southdowns that are bigger than the uk versions , very good sheep , been tempted by a few females a couple times ive seen them at sales
as above southdown
, charollais is dishley leicester x southdown , ie Bakewell x Ellman probably two of the foremost breeders right back in mid - late 1700s , that had influence in many european breeds of today , many the best breeds go back to one or the other or both .
thats fair enough , but mole valley closed all the small people we used to use with their buying power , simply not good enough to have people drive miles just to find someone on holiday , more sense to train up more staff so there is always cover
So drove 40mins to MVF yesterday , "do you have any ovivac / heptavac ?" yes loads in the fridge, but we cant let you have it because there isnt a qualified person to book it out !
WTF !
to say i was annoyed is an understatement with lambs needing a follow up dose shortly ,
The last time i went...
only if you get timing exactly right , lambs i lost were indoor ones slight spread of ages , went down for second time 2-3 weeks after first dose , sooner be sure of treatment in a hostile environment , cocci like nemo there is no second chance
and vecoxin is very rough on already challenged lambs
Dont forget if using vecoxin drenches you need to do a second one 10 days later , i got caught out few years ago left it to long for second drench , After advice on here tyracol is better being one dose as it has residual effect .
I try and expose the lambs early in life, so dose rate is lower...
