    Slurry tank expansion

Not that I'm aware of. Id like to do the same thing. For the same reason that I don't want to tackle the work myself is the same reason no sane contractor would touch it. They would only give a tail light guarantee - tying into an old tank more hassle, problems and issues than a new one.

Anyone imported stock from the republic ?

Bluetongue status will drive ability to move anything. You should be able to import ok though. For cattle exports to ROI - bluetongue status and BVD status are hurdles. Check with your local department office.

    FYM on grass

Some cracking farming ground around Aberdeen. I always look forward to flying back in after 2 or 3 weeks away to see whats been going on in the fields. Nice (ish) problem to have - an over supply of straw based FYM. We cant get straw easily so most of our cattle sheds have slurry tanks below...

    FYM on grass

I know this wont suit everyone. My old man let FYM sit and rot all summer till late August. Then spread it on what ever fields required it - usually by rotation. I keep it for Potash hungry silage ground. Spread in late August the bottom of the heap is well rotted the top still has fresh straw...

    Sick bull

Did the vet check out his rumen function? If hes not eating then something clearly wrong. Did he eat many nuts? Is there any dung? If there is blockage / impaction you could try flushing him with a jar of coffee in a bucket of luke warm water - maybe a bag of stomach microbes too from the vet -...

    Are Wagyu cattle any good?

Hence the supermarket 'prime Wagyu burger' market. Mince it, process it and try and get a premium for it.

    Are Wagyu cattle any good?

Hard to fatten a Wagyu. Its marbling they all talk about. A pure wagyu will take 3 or 4 years to marble. Most of the dairy x wagyu will be on the hook at 24 months. I killed blonde x wagyu at 18 months, 24 months and a 5 year old cow. No real difference in the eating that we could tell. Beef was...

    Are Wagyu cattle any good?

They are very easy calving in pedigree heifers. Tick that box. They obviously have their benefits to the dairy industry too, short gestation & easy calving ie getting cows back to milk asap. The calf has a value to the 'beef' market. Granted its like no finished sucker born beef animal and the...

    Rumen Fluke

Every time I have a beast that is not thriving or is generally loose of the dung - I have a dung sample checked by the vet. Always rumen fluke - been the story for about 4 years - I have never drenced for any fluke before that. Initially sampled after a conversation with a wise chap after i was...

Northern Irish Politics Thread (or what passes for politics in NI)

I'm only surmising of course. The 80's was when intelligence became the weapon of choice. The Westlink construction from 79-83 allowed control on all movements to and from West Belfast from the city centre - pretty smart.

Northern Irish Politics Thread (or what passes for politics in NI)

Introduced at the height of the troubles; when the government got to inspect and check every car on the road on an annual basis....... that might have been useful from a security / inelegance / monitoring point of view. Now its just another form of tax and a way to enable and maintain public...

Agreed @yoki There is a big green / carbon game to play. We will of course play it, its that or get out of the playground. Doesn't mean i like it or really support where we are going with it. Hunger will be the only thing that changes the direction of travel.
