If it's in the ground long enough I would go for some Maris Kestrel Kale, next any Hybrid Brassica, down to the cheapest forage rape you can buy if you can not get it sown early enough for the time your wanting to feed it.
Direct drilling or even broadcasting and harrowing would leave the ground...
We have started digging a new supply to the house , plumber coming tomorrow to connect into the hot water cylinder in our garage.
Supply to dairy yet to be decided ! bought a roll of 20 mm pipe to try and thread up the existing pipe when we get it disconnected.
we will give it a go. if its a...
A few questions if you don't mind? Quite interested in this.
Are you using a trailed or mounted sprayer ?
Grade of fertilizer , bought ready mixed ?
Would you call it foliar low rate N , or using a similar rate to solid on bare ground.
we are losing 500 litres an hour UU guys thought so about a £1 .
I am not bad with a couple of bits of bent wire at finding pipes but we have a fair idea of were it is.
pipe was put in when we started milking here in 1977
We had a burst in the three fields it passes through 5 years ago , no...
We have just had United Utilities water leak guys in our yard , their losing water on our stretch of the road and our meter is spinning.
Turned off the stop tap next to the farm we put in when we were trying to find a leak we had 5 years ago , meter stopped, the leaks across the tarmac house...
I tried to buy a new 100 hp 2wd in 2018, replaced a 2wd case cx80
We also have a 390 2wd. They shared the spraying and fert spreading
We also need a 2wd to get in our cubicle shed , to bed up with a ag dispenser
I didn't have much luck, ended up with a NH T85 with a super steer axle,it's great...
MMB ended at the start of my career, I still have the pen to sign the milk marque contract Andrew Dare gave me at Carlisle
I think at the time things had to change and we have been in 5 different coops since ,now in a good place with Arla I feel.
I often feel Genus should have stayed as a...
Thank you for asking. I used your advice and went with Field farm tours who were very helpful and got it all sorted for me going early May.
Unfortunately we only got 8 people signed up and the trip needed 15 really to keep the cost down so I called it off.
Have since had quite a few tell me...
Just snapped the belt on the front of our farm king that runs the bottom auger , drive belts at the back are fine , for now.
First time out of the shed for a couple of years ! number on the belt unreadable.
could i trouble someone to have a look at theirs and post the number on here
These broiler sites need to be really on it and collect all the dead birds in the litter. From what I understand this has become more of a problem as antibiotics have been removed from the chicken diets
20 plus years ago we used litter from this site on our sheep ground ,never had a problem...
I think Kay Carslaw recommended 9 inches / cow, and my 1980's ICI booklet I just dug out recommends at least 6 inches as long as there is 24 hr access.
Depending whether you have use for a lot of bedding muck , a set of kennels would be a cheaper and easier run than a straw yard I would think...
I lost 9 cows in a fortnight a few years ago , the first cow dropped dead half a hour after being milked in the morning. It didnt make it out of the shed . its quite scary.
That was from a neighbour hauling broiler litter past on the road in spreaders, his other neighbour lost 9 strong bullocks...
Our farm isn't spotless by any means and we do turn out everything for summer but we find flies not an issue as long as we get a good muck out and pressure wash any thick muck clagged to walls around the parlour etc.
one year we didnt muck out the hospital straw yard next to the parlour and...
We did this a couple of years ago, walled our tanks away from the washing area of the dairy to keep Arla happy.
Used some plastic board from Quality Equipment ltd with stainless channel top and bottom as guides. Also supplied a sealed door in the same stuff.
Really pleased with it, looks tidy...
Can you still get sylvinite or magnesia Kainit ? We buy a load a year for our fodder beet and put the rest over the grass. but the last two or three years it hasn't been the proper stuff just a blend which looks more like road salt grit.
Would really like a load of as mined stuff. Is there any...
