Interesting idea.Building the clamp on the plastic sheet has always been a problem i cant quite solve.Back in the days of vacuum silage not everyone would have had a self unloading trailer so there must be a technique to use a conventional buckrake.
There is an ICI Agricultural Division Film...
I think i know the answer to this question already but how essential is it that the clamp is pumped om the same day as filling... for example if the clamp was finished at 8 or 9 pm would it have to sealed at once?
Thank you very much for your reply. I have a collection of older silage machinery and would be very keen to replicate a silage system from the 60s.It would be a relatively small scale project.
I would very keen to see a method for building a clamp as would have been used at the time.
I was...
Has anyone any thoughts of how to build a free standing clamp with a buckrake or telescopic.I remember seeing adds for Stephens Plastics Vac Pac silage and they looked to have been build with fairly straight sides. Not everyone will have access to the JF Unloading trailer like Mr Lance
I remember the system that you are talking about but i always thought the farmer was called John Wrench.I would really like to see you leaflet if you could possibly find it and perhaps make a copy
Thank you very much for your reply. There is a film made by ICI in 1966 about making vacuum silage which would be interesting to see but the on copy is in MERL Reading.
What i was thinking of doing was spread out the floor sheet and fold it up again. Then push grass onto the front edge to form a...
Thank you for your reply.I was thinking of trying to make a clamp on part of a disused runway. There is also a small earth bank silo which might be useful.Would just be using a tractor and buckrake
I understand this may be a stupid question but how would you go about building a clamp on top of the plastic sheet without damaging it and also leaving it so that can be sealed?
Has anyone ever seen or know how you would get access to a film entitled Vacuum Silage with Polythene made by ICI agriculture in 1966.There is a copy held in MERL but i have no idea how to view it but i feel it would be very good viewing.
