    Brinicombe 4in1 buckets

Getting closer to lambing and had bit of trouble with orf and cocci last year with lambs that stayed inside for 3 weeks. Wondering if these buckets would be the answer ? What are peoples experience with them. The cocci just needs to be kept at bay until I drench the lot, but did have some bad...

Best bull for suckled calves out of Plainer cows

I am swayed by the Charolais, how hard is it to find one that’s going to throw me plenty of shape and width, without donkeys of calves that need pulling out and suckling.

Best bull for suckled calves out of Plainer cows

Run a herd of predominantly Angus cows and cross cross with Lim and Angus bulls and keep the heifers so do have a fair few Angus x Lim cows now . Wanting to try and sell a fair few sucked calves in the autumn but wondering what bull would suit these types. They’re pretty plain cows. Charolais ...

    Brecknock Hill Cheviots

Thankyou for the lesson on Chevs, I had no idea, much appreciated…… But I’d still say that a Brecknock cheviot that’s been stabilised and called a cheviot for 150 years probably can still be called a cheviot . Not that I’m that worried at 11pm ,but there we go.

    Brecknock Hill Cheviots

Know a lot who have tried Southie and Lairg type cheviots on the Welsh hills and they didn’t perform anywhere near as good as the Brecknock cheviots already there . Same as everywhere, sheep have got to suit the ground or you’re pissing in the wind.

Red clover into year old ley

So I’d be better off waiting until the spring ? If it needs 10 weeks warm soil to be established? I’d be able to graze current ley down tight within next couple of weeks. Did wonder if doing that and then adding some of the seed into some corn fed to ewes and letting them spread it and tread it...

Red clover into year old ley

Basically, I bought and planted a ley last year that was meant to contain white and red clover as part of the mix, however once it had germinated and grown it was obvious that the red clover hadn’t grown at all, with the only explanation being it was never in the bag in the first place. Company...

    Young lambs with Lice ?

Noticed a lot of my 2-3 week old lambs in shed nibbling at themselves and pulling at wool. Ewes have been housed since January and not come into contact with any other sheep and aren’t showing any signs of wool pulling or scratching. I’m certain it’s got to be lice, can see the little black dots...
