I was recently chatting with an old uni mate, who is now a financial advisor, about a few acres that have been sold near me for £12k per acre.
He was asking me why anyone would do this from a financial view point, because if they invested in the stock market they would get a lot better return...
Hello.
How much does a small scale wind turbine cost these days amd how much do they generally produce. Thinking on the smaller side.
I've got solar panels and was thinking wind might complement it nicely if I also get some batteries
Do I need planning to rent out part of a farm house?
Got a few spare rooms as it's a large old farm house. These rooms aren't being used currently. So thinking of renting it out long term.
Got a neighbour who normally rent standing grass of me £50 per acre per cut. This year he still has everything that he made last year left, so has asked if he can plant barley instead.
It might suit me as I can get a autumn reseed in the ground and not have as many weeds as a spring reseed...
Has anyone installed batteries to power their farm?
Got a small solar system and looking at possible expanding it and adding in batters to power the farm as much as possible.
My energy contract is up for renewal soon and the new prices are crazy.
Has anyone has to upgrade the inverter yet? Ours is just out of warrenty and now the salesmen are calling
"new ones are so much more efficient" etc etc
Also does anyone run a storage battery with their panels? Quite tempted with them as we have a few large fridges on the go most of the time.
Hi
I might be taking on 100 acres of organic lowland land close to myself, the owner wants to keep it organic.
I want to put sheep on the land and lamb outside in april/may (was thinking 250 ewes)
I'm sure I can easily manage the medicine side of things because I'm using FEC currently.

Hello
I'm currently trying to work out how much beet/sweds I've grown in tonnes.
I've weighed a m2 of beet and its 17kg.
With my maths skills I think that makes 170,000kg /ha or 69t/acre fresh weight........where have I gone wrong??
this seems really high for what is an average crop
Thanks
What sort of price would I be looking at for a new shed put up??..
about 120ft by 75ft....
concrete floor and concrete panels on the side with Yorkshire boarding higher up.
Hello. I've read somewhere that people use the bottom strand of an electronic fence as an earth? How exactly do you do this?
Got a field of rape that I don't fancy driving a tractor across to make tracks for the fence, and it's almost touching the wire [emoji120]
I normally get the problem of singles becoming too big half way through lambing (outside mid April). This year I was thinking on putting them in a shed and feeding silage only.
What peoples opinion on this?
Thought it would make it easier to adopt and lambs onto them as they would be easier...
Has anyone got/used a Musso as a farm vehicle? A lot cheeper than any other pickup , but is there a real reason for this? Especially interested in how they tow a full stock box
I was chatting to a few mates who are non farmers and they had came up with an idea about buying animals and mincing the whole lot (bones and all) to create a food for working dogs. I told them about price for lamb/mutton/ and beef to buy in markets but they were asking about Horses.but i didnt...
