    Land Area Calculator

Some brilliant responses here to check out. Thanks for all the feedback. Need to do some computer work later on so will definitely check them all out. Thanks once again.

    Land Area Calculator

It certainly wasn't a point that I had thought of. But if the technology existed to analyse an OS map for contour gradients per land parcel, a significant amount of mathematical coding would be required. Such that I don't see it requiring much further enhancement to then deduct areas of land...

    Land Area Calculator

Pedantic mockery! Since my initial question was regarding sub-dividing fields for grazing, I couldn't really care less about BPS which I don't even claim. Nice try though.

    Land Area Calculator

Find something square, a coaster or something. Measure from top left to top right. May be 10 cm. Now measure from top left to bottom right. This 45° angle adds an extra 3cm to the measurement of surface area. Am not sure the principals of Hugelkultur would agree. What is the website address...

    Land Area Calculator

Have used Acme Planimeter before but it doesn't factor in contours so if you compare the measurement it gives, it is always smaller than that with Defra. Anyone know what system they use and is there one that is available online?

    Lame Lamb

Have got a 3 day old lamb that was limping on front left last night and today it isn't using either front legs. No breaks, pain or inflammation. Forgot to take temperature, will do that later, but it is very alert, calling for it's mother and it took 250ml milk no problems. Any ideas?

    Outdoor Hay Storage

How do you do yours? This is my first winter on a new FBT but the land doesn't have any sheds etc. I run sheep only and this winter, I bought in small bale hay and stored on pallets covered with silage sheet. I was feeding every other day to go with the grass rotation which worked well to...

    Hourly Rate for a Milker

Hi folks, The dairy farm I work on is selling their cows and moving into beef and with it will go 15 of my hours a week. As a result, I'm going to start asking around tomorrow to see if I can get a milking job to make up the difference. So that I'm not falling behind in rates of pay and...

    Selectively Breeding Sheep

Some good replies. So how about this for a question; How many of you are maintaining lambing percentages whilst, say, no longer broad spectrum worming ewes or lambs? Or broad spectrum anything for that matter...?

    Rental Land Value - Devon

The landlady does not have claim any entitlements so am looking into whether any have been claimed for myself. I spoke to another agent the other day to get their view on value and they said yearly keep in this area had gone for between £100 and £150 an acre so I can't complain,

    Selectively Breeding Sheep

I have had my own EasyCare sheep for two years now jumping between this and that farmers land. It has all been a bit uncertain but now I have a tenancy I'm thinking about my aims with them. My main aim is to have a closed flock selectively bred to suit the area I'm in. In that never existing...

    Rental Land Value - Devon

Thanks for all the replies. Was great to hear all the opinions. To close off, I accepted the £3,600 offer and should sign later this week. Given the lands proximity to both the farm I work at and home, not to mention the difficulty in getting land in the area made it worth that price to me...

    Rental Land Value - Devon

No BPS attached to it. It's a 7 year FBT with annual break clauses. Good road access and all fields have troughs fed by mains or stream water. Not sure who pays water though... Question; Am thinking of accepting the £3,600. Would that mean the rent is fixed at that amount for the 7 years or...

    Rental Land Value - Devon

Hi folks, Needing some advice. I have been in negotiations to take on my first tenancy. I have been farming this land for 9 months on a pay per ewe basis but the current tenant has given it up. After asking for plans and acreages to be given, the agent has come back saying it is 38.44 acres...
