    Stoic bunch farmers

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling blue from the last 12 months, I keep telling myself it's not usually been this bad. The weather is the worst thing that gets me down.

    Winter wheat gross margin

So presumably farmers that have left it too late to apply will not be able to receive subsidy as first come first served will have hoovered it up in AHL1/2 etc? Seems a very unfair policy stance... should be the same equal opportunities for all...

What to do when the cows are gone

I did rubbish at school and left at 16. Did an Open University degree when I was 25 in Economics and International Relations, took 6 years and graduated at 31 with 1st class honours. Did it part time alongside working, was brilliant.

The Beef Tracker thread (no Sheep)

Cows are Pickstocks forte really, I don't think they've been doing clean for very long and have only got a handful of contracts with a few restaurants chains that are a bit hit and miss with demand I'm lead to believe, it's good that they have moved into clean though as hopefully it will...

    SFI from a dairy perspective

All the big intensive dairy farms around here are herbal overseeding all their grass leys, personally I don't think it'll work very well, but the SAM 3 aims are so loose it almost says so long as you've had a go and can prove you have you'll receive the money irrespective of the results. They're...

What % of winter crops not planted or destroyed

I must say I was shocked driving up the M1 amd seeing the scale of it all. Our own crops here are sh!t in West Midlands, many maize stubbles with huge ruts that didn't get planted. Many wheat crops that have completely failed. I should have not bothered redrilling my bare patches in that...

What % of winter crops not planted or destroyed

I went for a drive last week on the M1, Derby to Grimsby, 82 miles solid and a decent crop was a rarity, if there even was one, it was seriously bad

What % of winter crops not planted or destroyed

How did your crops do with 1 big dose of N in April? I only ask as the way it's looking might be what I have to do here this spring 😔

    Buitelaar calve rear

I've never done it but think they supply everything you just supply the sheds and labour. Think labour was £40 a calf last time I heard, if you hit their targets.
