Because the money offered for this SFI option is the same as the CS option. They can’t allow it to be more profitable in SFI than CS.
Also it would favour the milder parts of England.
I’ve been growing winter bird feed under CS for the last 5 years. Defra should have made it clear from the beginning that under SFI, just like CS, it is to be planted in May/June and left in place until the following Feb/March.
They monitor this forum so have been well aware that some farmers...
The NFU had a golden opportunity to do a reset and win back the trust of members and non members, but they screwed it up when they made Tom Bradshaw an un-elected president. The evidence seems to prove he can’t be trusted, yet they still allowed him to go unchallenged for the leadership. What a...
If farming is profitable and thriving then the associated businesses can also make healthy profits and then the local pubs, restaurants, shops etc also do well. Who could begrudge that?
That’s what it was like round here when the coal miners were making good money, or in parts of Scotland during...
From some conversations I’ve had recently, I’m getting the feeling there’s some panick in businesses that rely on farming customers that large scale SFI options could become very popular.
For instance, suggesting that it wouldn’t be moral, or that you wouldn’t be a real “farmer” if you take...
Ideally I don’t want it sowing in rows. I suppose I could remove the pipes from the coulters and let the seed sprinkle on the soil in front of the tyres and harrow.
I have dug inspection holes, and the soil is good where it hasn’t been driven on. The problem is that with a 6m combine and 3m discs and drill plus baling there isn’t much ground that isn’t driven on, which in a dry year is ok, but last summer wasn’t. So it’s not a plough pan I’m wanting to...
What’s the preferred method for sowing grass seed now days? I will want to sow into cultivated wheat stubble. I am thinking of getting a Vaderstad BioDrill 180 to mount on our Rapid box drill, or is a grass rake/seeder combination better?
I’m thinking I need one to relieve compaction now I am moving away from ploughing.
I like the idea of low disturbance, but is that possible combined with removing compaction?
Are leading discs important?
How many legs/meter?
Do some manufacturers make a better job of it than others?
But some of these options have been available under CS for quite a while. Some people have half their farm in AB6 stubble for 12 months. I have grown non food crops in the past. Surly some land owners must have died whilst having some of these options on their land and tested the law on this?
I am thinking of using options IPM2 (flower rich grass margins but over whole fields) and AHL2 (winter bird food). These would not be rotated, but kept on the same fields for 2 or 3 years. Any thoughts on how this may impact APT?
I have been doing these options (AB8 and AB9) in a small way...
I have a similar age Merlo. It has had this total electrical failure a couple of times but magically fixed itself, but I wonder for how long!
Where is the fuse/faulty connection that caused your problem?
The heat pump/octovalve/hvac on the Tesla is particularly efficient it seems. We have an older BMW i3 without a heat pump and that is much more affected in cold weather.
