I could have A right moan on about how hard things are here currently but that won’t change anything and there are plenty of farmers of what ever guise having just or much worse time of it.
so my question is this. We are constantly told we need to build resilience into our businesses.to you...
We don’t use a huge amount of straw. Maybe 40 tons a season. For large calf pens. (7) calving pad and colostrum group. Would the savings in straw usage given the ever rising price warrant the dust and cost of some
Sort of straw chopper/shredder? all but one pen would be easy access.
Apart from not grazing calving has gone well.
very little mastitis none at all in the heifers. However we have around 8% with a blind quarters. I was unable to test seal the quarters in question before Christmas. Suggesting the problem had occurred earlier In their lives.
thoughts on what...
Listened to the kite podcast today. I’m not sure how you guys do it. The resilience required is out of my league.

Not sure when these figures became available. But given the good news for English farmers I’m surprised
how little news this...
Hi. Dry cows are short of protein. Had the same issue last yr and had colostrum issues for a while. Feed rep is suggesting we need at least 2 kgs of dry cow rolls &£473 a ton. Is the best solution? Through management calving issues aren’t a big issue here.
Following from @Headless chicken s thread. Lots and lots and lots of farmers particularly in the southern half of the uk are seeing lower yields than last winter. So my question is why isn’t production down more . Last winter folks where chasing milk as prices were high this yr is very...
How do folks who use it apply it ? It is supposed to go under the skin as opposed to in the muscle. We have a herringbone parlour and a herringbone race. Neither seem easy options.
Currently we don’t have any apart from knowing how much solution to use.
so my questions are when and why you footbath and how to apply that to a preventative protocol.
So following on from previous thread.any suggestions on how to find a xero trained farm secretary as current one is employed through consultancy group whom I don’t think use xero.
Morning.
to avoid any chance of cross contamination we need another bull tank for calf rearing. Anywhere between 1000-2000 litres would be perfect. Have asked our refrigeration company and they said they don’t see anything under 4K.
any suggestions?
We are currently with SSE. Am looking to see whether anybody is any better.

Have been granted
£2518 towards a foot trimming crush and rotating brush.
thoughts on whether this is good value considering I will be adding to the debt by doing so.
I admit it would be nice to have a more accessible crush currently we are running around 97% 0s and I find it quite easy to do...
Over the last 6 weeks or so we have had serious issues with our therms.
we have replaced our plate cooler. Changed parts on the milk pump. Changed a few silicone parts . All the rubber in the parlour was replaced during the dry period.
we have found an issue in the vacuum line where by a...
Never thought I’d be writing this but desperate times etc. later today we will be starting to zero grazing some away ground using a front mover and a forage wagon. For the milkers
Have had some great advice already but thought I would ask on here as I seem to remember there being some proper...
We have a vacuum operated back gate in the parlour.
It’s operated by(technical terms coming up)
A sliding bar which runs the length of the parlour. On the end of bar is the thing in the picture. Which covers/uncovers the vacuum going/coming from the ram.
As you can see it’s broken. Anybody...
