I have cut and tedded 30 acres (out of 100, rest still standing, phew!). Now the forecast has changed from dry days one after the other, to rain for next 3 days. Then it's forecast to go dry again.
Obviously they may change the forecast but let's say it's correct.
I don't need the hay, got...
Let's pretend we have never been in the EU and our government is now proposing a referendum to ask us whether we would like to join or not. They are not asking us to join the Euro, just the EU, i.e. as we are now.
So, would you vote to join? Yes or No?
(Never done a poll before, hope this...
The brown hare population on our farm seems to have almost disappeared. I can't remember the last one I saw. There used to be loads and we encouraged them by leaving unmowed strips and boundaries etc. I think all the buzzards take the leverets and now we have red kites as well, and I'm guessing...
Got a friend who has a small lake on his land. Swans breed there every year and have done for donkeys years. But the past 3-4 years all the signets have suddenly died at a few months old, usually within a week or two of each other. Not one has survived. They used to put out some grain for them...
Got 100 lambs all about 42-44kgs just need a bit more finish to go to market. So I've put creep feeders in with them and got them going ad lib on lamb finishing nuts.
Never done it before, so simple question......
How much should they eat a day each do you reckon?
Cheers
(They have...
Anybody use a tag reader with a Mac? All I want to do is to read the tags into a device, then be able to connect to the device with cable (or bluetooth, or wifi?) and get the file onto my Mac where I'll put it into Excel.
I don't want any special software, just the basic data in csv, text or...
Our flock of Lleyn and Lleyn crosses will be dispersed at Ludlow Market on Friday 25th Sept (selling starts at 11:00 but don't when ours will go through yet). There should be 439 in total, ranging from 5 years through to 103 maiden yearlings. Catalogues will be available from Ludlow Market...
I am injecting my ewes with Cydectin for the first time, but have been told that if they've been Footvaxed then don't inject those because they may react. I have a few that have been Footvaxed, so I'm not doing them, they'll just be wormed as usual.
However, when I inject ewes with Cydectin...
Sorry this has been asked so many times, but from the last thread on the subject most people said wean your cade lambs off milk abruptly at 5 weeks, and onto creep. But what I didn't pick up is when you introduce creep? Do you just take away the milk and put creep out, or start feeding creep...
I've got to transport 4 x 500/550kg fat steers quite a long way soon. I have your standard 12' IF trailer, wheels outside, not the dual purpose type.
Would you put a partition in with 2 steers in front and 2 in back, or just put the lot in together? Never transported a trailer full of cattle...
I've just pulled out a hedge which is 90% English Ivy. I've heard many times on this forum how good it is for sheep. So I stuck a branch in with my ewe-lambs, and it was gone in a couple of hours.
I Googled it out of interest, and Google says it's poisonous to cattle and sheep. Is that only if...
I'm looking at converting some redundant stone barns into dwellings.
I'm in England. The barns would almost certainly be sold, or, unlikely (but not impossible) I will keep and rent them out. Also possible but not likely, that we keep one for ourselves in retirement.
My questions are, would...
Can anyone recommend a good, tractor supply, log splitter. Horizontal preferred and need to do some fair sized logs.
Actually, electric would be ok if powerful enough.
Cheers
Got a batch of lambs I bought in and after a week or so they started coughing. Thought it was lungworm (as did vet) and treated accordingly. Anyhow, 3 died and we cut the last one open. No sign of lungworm but definite signs of pneumonia. Vet suggested Micotil so I've gone and done it now and...
Bought a batch of 100 ewe-lambs a couple of weeks ago. All in good condition, out on good grass. They've started coughing and not had this before. Any idea what it might be and how to treat? Do lambs get lung-worm? Had that in cattle and this sounds similar, i.e. an annoying little cough. Seems...
I used to HeptvacP+ all my lambs including fats, then 4 years ago I did the first dose but didn't do the booster. Nothing happened. Since then I've not vaccinated any fat lambs at all. Again, nothing has happened, no problems (yet !!!). Last year I had plenty of lambs over the winter for sale in...
Got a stoat taken residence quite near the house, comes out and sits at the entrance to his hole, seen him a few times now. He (or she) is quite big, defo not a weasel. I know nothing about them, so just asking is this a problem or a good thing? Do they get up to anything I need to know about?
TIA
Had two today, one was head out but not breathing, so pushed it back in, got the legs, pulled out and all is well.
Second one was breathing, but the ewe was open so just managed to get one leg forward then out and all OK again.
Question is, what do you do when you have a lamb with head out...
