You should be on brass olives for the mk1 the flare isn't really going to work either because your union hasn't enough threads to force/compress the joint.

When you cut out your sections spray a weld through primer on the insides
After welding you really need a cavity wax applied with a hose up the frame sections
Those cabs are pressed steel sections spot welded together
