Hi looking at providing a pre inspection or audit service to get farmers ducks in a row, either Organic Red Tractor or buyers remit, good idea for farmers under pressure ?
Very good background knowledge of requirements and criteria.

I'm looking at a Glycol cooler for our 50 cow rotary which could spin out 3750 litre of milk an hour. On applying for a Leader grant I was advised that I wouldnt get a grant for an ice builder but would for a Glycol due to energy saving and not just cost saving. It would seem a lot of expensive...
Not being a native Hampshire farmer we milk 6:30am and 3 pm, Alternative weekends off and Xmas dry (milking not booze!) Aiming for the “everyday a weekend day “philosophy my Somerset friend abide by or OAD
both would be nice !
The guy leading the course was ex ambulance man and had a vested interest in lowering the weight of the average person needing assistance. Reckoned 10% of children pre school age in Dorset ,were obese. Obviously we are eating too much saturated fats and sugar but we suggested dairy should be...
No critisism of the the lad whatso ever but I was astounded at the hours he was having to work. I was in awe of his dedication to his family to get up at that time , my comments are aimed at farmers who think pushing people to get the last litre is sustainable. Excellent day and good insight on...
He was the herdsman, thats what i mean, about the farm owner needs to consider what load he's putting on a young chap and his family. If the herdsman was paid hourly i bet the situation would change ! What is the net gain from 12 hour (apart) milkings ? bugger all I bet.
I was at a First Aid course yesterday
5 grazing dairy farmers, one traditional organic farmer, young lad too, guess who couldnt stay awake ?
You guessed, he was up at 2.30AM to milk at 3.30AM so he could be home with kids in evening at 5;30 pm!!
Someone wants a good hard look at themselves,ie...
So not wishing to purchase a seperator at this stage. The first reply seems the best, a cage in the Slurrystore to pump out of, with a mesh size to suit noozle size 10mm i believe and plenty of capacity Id have thought. Thanks for replies guys.
It’s getting expensive although not in nvz lots of yard (grey)water getting in system. So when it’s rained need to drop levels, I’d rather an irrigator travel on wet fields than a 150hp tractor . But I know what you mean Manney.
We have a slurry system that harks back to the previous system -cows in more than out.Slurry was umbilicaled out via farm machinery (very old ) and staff (too costly)
Now we have cows out all year except when calving. So we have dirty water rather than slurry, not quite enough water to wash down...

Incidentally I loaded some calves on a right angle so they didn't know where they were going until last second. They...
