I've had the mature apprentices before , and I've always found that they know best , they are a mature apprentice for a reason , and can be disruptive with rest of staff ,
I think your right , I used to take on 2 apprentices a year , got disappointed a about 6 years ago by both , now take them on in summer and if any good offer them apprenticeship for September college start , that way can weed out the timewasters , I've currently no apprentices !
Never move it , with a jack , best thing is a solid hit with a big hammer , Wd 40 overnight then smack it hard in morning , try a hammer drill vibrating on head to slacken it
