MF 575 alternator at fault or not?

My 575 only does about 150 hours per year. Now the alternator light has come on (fast flashing as opposed to permanently on). When I put the multimeter across the battery it reads 14.8 to 15 volts. I swapped the battery from another tractor and the same thing happens. Why would the light come on...

    Sprayer out of hibernation

The sprayer had 10 litres antifreeze circulated all around before being shed stored for the past 4 months. Going to spray a tank of Roundup next week (2000 litres). Best practice is probably to give a rinse out but is it really necessary before using roundup?

    Hedge cutter maintenance

My McConnel 6570 has sat unused in the shed since last March. I am going to change the tank filter for the coming season and just wondered is it better to do it before starting the machine and circulating the oil or at the end of the first day’s use. Or does it make any difference? Thanks

    MF 65

Can anyone interpret the date codes on a MF 65? The serial no. is 541580 which puts it at 1961 according to several websites There is a code J 24 K on the transmission housing which l am guessing is a casting date, is anybody able to enlighten me on this because I can’t find anything on...

    Hedgecutters and electric fences.

Yesterday I was cutting behind the single strand electric fence on a nearby dairy farm. From time to time the hood of the hedger made contact with the wire and a spark could be seen. Now my tractor is 24 years old so I am not particularly worried, but it just got me wondering whether this...

    Tyres for hedging tractor

My hedging tractor is on 650/65x38. Today one of the sidewalls gave up and the rim was on the ground in a matter of seconds. So basically l am looking at two new rears as l generally don’t like secondhands, and two new fronts as they’re also past their best. Thing is l often thought the 650’s...

    Paint compatability?

lf an implement has been painted with two pack paint and gets a scratch or chip, can you touch up with normal enamel? Not too worried whether it matches perfectly and dont want to do the entire implement just a few scratches.

    Battery electrolyte colour.

Is the battery acid in 12V tractor batteries always clear in colour? l ask because on checking the levels, 2 of the cells contain a black solution. It is a 4 year old Exide and wouldnt be the best at holding a charge. l have taken it to a motor factor where they put a tester on it and it says...

    Hedgecutter flails.

How has anyone found the forged F10 flails from "flails direct"? Original genuine F10 s were desperate for chipping so l put a new set of F14's on at start of this season and have found them better but still get some chipping. So considering either forged F10's or the equivalent to F14 from...

    Combine driving position.

The first combine l had was an MF 788. Like all MF's up to the Dronningborg takeover, the drivers platform was offset to the nearside. So l just got to wondering what other marques used this configuration? My dad had a Dania that did and a neighbour had a pre axial flow International (841?)...

    Changing wheels

My MF 575 is on 13.6x38 and the tyres are totally gone in both sidewall and thread. Been on the lookout for 2nd hand replacements for a bit. Have been offered a pair of 16.9x38 wheels & tyres at decent price. I know 16.9x34 would be the correct size for this tractor but would there be any issues...

    7.5 ton lorry

Good evening. Been considering for some time now , the purchase of small truck (flatbed) for bringing tractor & plough to matches and so on. No big budget so looking at 20 year old or so. Will be only doing approx 1000 miles p.a. It seems the bulk of them are MAN , Merc , DAF or Iveco. Anyone...

McConnel hedger linkage mount set up

The background. A man near me bought a 6565T in 2017. Used for a short week, then he fell ill and outfit got parked up. Sadly he passed away a couple of months later. I have now purchased the hedger from the executors and picked it up today. The question. As the manual could not be found and l...

    RSI from hedger controls

Having my hand constantly clasped around the joystick of the hedgecutter was never an issue before , but this year am suffering from fingers being really stiff even after a short time . Not much can be done about it or is there ?

    New hedger

So wasnt due to change the cutter till next season but the local dealer has an ex demo mcconnel 6065 that comes at a not too bad price and with 0% finance l am tempted. Never ran a mcconnel before so any opinions of this model? It is 6m reach without telescopic . I am used to a 6m Reco Ferri but...

    Mower pivot geometry

I am considering a mower change as the old claas is getting tired but still works but would need a nice few quid spent on it this year and what with zero % finance deals going at the moment , a new purchase isnt too difficult to justify. So first up l only tend to cut heavy crops off permanent...

Happy enough with basic guidance but

Yesterday the magnetic antennae on my leica mojomini came off tractor and hit the road. Needless to say its dead. Been quoted 900 +vat for a replacement . At that price its probably better to just get an entire new set up. Patchwork Trimble Topcon all coming in more or less the same. Teejet...

    Pto speed on mower

So l have been pricing mowers these last few weeks. Just a plain 3m mounted without conditioner . Usual wide range of prices but on calling one dealer for the final round of getting the best price he asked if l wanted a 540 or 1000 pto model. Both mowers exactly the same apart from pto speed. Oh...

Pulling a pump from a well.

Have been asked to supply a tractor to extract a submersible pump from a 475 feet well next week. Never did that sort of job before so wondered what sort of tractor to send. Would 70 hp 2wd suffice or is it a 4wd 120hp job? Thanks.

    MF 80 loader

So l'd like to fit a loader to my 575 just to lift round bales of hay and straw about the yard. I like the ease of unhitching the MF 80 and that it doesnt leave huge brackets on the tractor impeding vision of front wheels etc. My question is are all 80 loaders the same? Will one from a 590 or...
