    Water in round bales

You may have other problems with density from the baler. but advice is never handle/carry bales with a spike until you feed them. ALWAYS handle them with a 2 roller handler or a grab, A spike immediately introduces air which is the enemy of decent silage. Dafydd WW

    Boulder Marking

Best practical Idea so far is the water-filled mineral tubs, however the cattle even upturn full 80 kg tubs which are hard to right at my age. I have cleared some fields making them safe for machinery, but others I would like to mow etc remain a problem. This limits the rotation for silage...

    Boulder Marking

These are moraine boulders, Glacier brought from the Ogwen valley, rounded, VERY hard and can be as big as a caravan. Had a very big machine with a pecker years ago when digging out for a shed - pecker made no headway at all. Gelignite worked, gunpowder didnt. The problem with removal is...

    Boulder Marking

Hi All, Hope this is an appropriate section? I have several fields which have many stones too large for removal/burying by JCB which protrude sufficiently above the general surface to damage grass machinery. Over the years I have marked them using old car tyres, but the cattle delight in...

    Fert spreading App

Thanks Nearly, none of these are familiar. The one I had was accurate enough for fert spreading and was straightforward to use. As I said, you just drove to the field, switched on, enlarged the field image (google maps) to fill the screen, set your bout width, press start, and set off. The...

    Fert spreading App

Some 8 (?) years ago I loaded an App which enabled me to trace my track when fert spreading on my tablet via GPS, it was very useful specially in my oddly shaped fields. You only needed to load in your bout width and set off, and thus ensure the whole field was covered. Inexplicably it has...

    Solis tractors am i mad?

My 2WD 60 hp has been fine, though not done many hours in 3 years. Only trouble was a failed safety switch for the starter when it was new and a leaking rad hose a year ago. For the money I would buy another, but they only do a 4WD version now. Headroom in the cab is annoying for entry & exit...

    Fox trapping

Three weeks gone by and absolutely no contact from 'local'police' as promised ( "local police would be in contact very soon" ) by Armed squad when they left. Inspector from Headquarters been in touch regarding my Complaint to IOPC, who said he would chase up 'locals' and they were to contact me...

    Round bale silage BAGS

Used to bag, like everyone else, many years ago. New bag on 1st then old bag on top. Often a hell of a job getting bag on if bale expanded a bit (string in those days). Lifted the bale with a spike, now know that is the worst thing to do as air is admitted and bale un-compressed. Wrapping is...

    Quorn

Where do the anti-meat, organic and vegan lobby think (if they are capable of thought) the fertilizer to grow the vegetables will come from? I days past the only fertilizer available came from the winter housing of livestock. Dafydd WW

    Fox trapping

I got the impression ( tho nothing was said) that they were not going elsewhere and had just picked on me as being nearby. Its quite likely that there's no one else in the area with a licence, - wouldn't know. They were either ignorant or uncommunicative on the incident, so I wondered what...

    Fox trapping

No receipt. No apology. No contact from 'local' police. North Wales Daily Post been in touch for more details, and will contact NWP for comment before any publication. I have lodged formal complaint with IPC, but that is referred on to NWP, so they will mark their own homework! Dafydd WW

    Fox trapping

Last night, after going to bed at 10.15, at roughly 11 I heard a helicopter buzzing about for some time and thought it might be the police looking for someone lost. At about 11.10 there were bright flashing lights on my bedroom window so got up to go outside to see what was going on, then...

    Fox trapping

The fox shooting chap who comes here, and many other farms in the locality, is fully equipped like Dry Rot's friend, costing many thousands of £s. Its amazing the view you get through thermal imaging equipment. He uses the electronic fox call device to lure foxes out from cover. He also makes...

    Fox trapping

Hi Tullah, Would you explain a little please just what you mean, and have you had success with such a set-up? I view of the fragile nature of some traps, I am also thinking of getting some hefty weldmesh and welding up a sizeable cage if I could be sure of a foolproof door. Although 'hard...
