Don't want to hijack thread with unrelated topic but while we are on the subject of seed, has anyone had any success planting cut seed? In particular with piper, agria , sagitta etc. Few articles online it seems it's pretty common abroad , but it do say it only works with certain varieties. All...
Any disadvantages or risks to growing potatoes after Sugar beet on well bodied black land? Not had potatoes for 7 years previously , low PCN count . Potato varieties will be Agria and Maris Piper
Thanks
As is the case most of the time farmers are completely removed from the realities under which most businesses operate. Everyone else in the world seems to alter their prices so that they always at least break even or generally make a profit, even those on the fringes of agriculture, mechanics...
We took on some new land last Autumn , it was wheat stubble. Land is Well bodied black land, good land but relatively high clay content , but still grows good potatoes , onions etc. Despite the relatively dry 2021/22 winter it had several wet holes where the wheat had died. We had all the land...

Has anyone ever put Primary P down the spout when drilling sugar beet? I have just tried some in the microgranular applicators on my old beet drill and it works out at approximately the correct rate, maybe only a touch over. Only thing that puts me off is unless do a lot of adapting it will be...
Hi All,
Looking to buy a piggy back beet drill, 6 row , to go behind a 3m power harrow. We power harrow 99% of our beet land anyway so it will save me a lot of messing around swapping over wheels and implements ( as I only have one tractor.) Just wondering what people experiences are with...
Hi All,
Good friend of mine runs a small pheasant shoot near Bedford. He has a 9.5 tonne grain silo he uses for feed wheat and is looking for someone to deliver 9.5 tonne and blow it up to the top of his grain silo. It's easy access. For some reason his regular supplier has let him down ...
Hi All,
Looking for 3m combination drill with disc counters, ideally with a following press wheel behind each Coulter and the ability to apply varying pressure to the counters. Therefore probably looking for a lemken, Sulky or kuhn but open to options.
10k budget. Based in East anglia but can...
Anyone currently lifting sagitta, what size Webb are you grading them over and what bag count are you getting? A large percentage of mine are now completely dead, wondering whether to make a start or if I'll have to wait to sell smaller potatoes !
When did you start irrigating them? Some people round here were irrigating before the potatoes had even emerged and have continued ever since yet there crops look very poor, I wonder if it's because roots haven't been encouraged to search for water early on and they can no longer keep them moist.
My sagitta very badly under stress, on some unirrigated black land ! They went in late April and still haven't met in the rows in places . Pulled a root or two last night and found generally 10-11 tubers per root but not sure if they will make size with lack of water, currently between chicken...
Are we thinking low yields this year due to hot dry weather and dry planting conditions ? Even big growers with irrigation must be struggling to keep things moist in this heat?
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has a spare irrigation pump they would be willing to hire, around Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border. Only to run one reel, doesn't have to be flash , huge or fancy , short or long term hire would be a big help either way. Only for relatively small acreage of...
