    Fertiliser Price Tracker

With the granular fertiliser prices so high, has anyone used liquid fertiliser on grassland? I've asked for information off the seller , but I don't know if there has to be a lot of grass before it's sprayed on. Can it be applied when sheep have taken the grass till it's bare?

    Sheep scab

Cydectin 2% was recommended by our vets as it treats both scab and lice. One injection of the 2% strength is sufficient. With this, it also works as a "hoover" for worms cleaning the pasture as it kills worms ingested for a longer period.

    Sheep scab

No, I checked under a microscope, definitely scab. I treated them for lice initially thinking lice was the problem. Anyway Cydectin should cure the both.

    Sheep scab

Can anyone tell me after treating ewes for scab with Cydectin 2% LA, for how long do they still itch?

Can you round bale and wrap wholecrop?

We do all our wholecrop baled and wrapped. The barley (if that's your cereal) needs to be harvested when the grain is at the "cheesy" stage. It really is a good way of reducing your concentrate costs, but do look out for rats (or just put the cats on "self catering")!

    grass seeds on rented land

I must say that I've had excellent results from Sinclair McGill's "Castle hill " mixture. Really good for grazing, and we take a cut from it too. Seeded a field and it lasted 20 years. Reseeded four years ago with the same mixture, really good growth on only 75Kg of fertiliser/ acre. Well...

    Ewe lamb tupping options

Charollais for ease of lambing. We use them on Welsh and Cheviot crossed ewe lambs. We also have charollais rams for sale ( just thought I'd slip that in!).

    Carmarthen Mart

We were down in Carmarthen buying calves in November, when we went to pay, one of the dealers said "you're not paying now are you, I don't pay till I've reared and moved the calves on". That apparently is the problem, if buyers don't pay then the auctioneers can't forward the money onto vendors...

    Cow with dead-leg.

Heifer is up in her feet after 9 days. We carried her out initially on straps, but this seemed to give her grief so we tried splitting a "dumpy" bag which has handles, making it easier to hook onto the loader. This worked very well as it supported the cow better. We did this a couple of times...

    Cow with dead-leg.

I have a heifer that needed assistance to calve Thursday night. She's eating and drinking well but still not up on her feet. Her back end sways and she falls over when trying to get up. Should I get her on her feet using a front-end loader?

    Thistles.

I have a field that's intended for a late cut of silage. Unfortunately, there seems to be quite a lot of creeping thistle coming up in places. Do I "top" them, and hope that there wont be too many in the silage? Do I spray them and hope that they die back before I take a cut (in about 6 weeks)...

    Beltex on Welsh .

Has anyone tried a Beltex or a Charmoise tup on a Welsh ewe? Are they too small or would I be better off putting a Charollais on them?
