Our Siskin is doing really well this year, 10.6t/ha over weighbridge with good grain quality, 79kg 12.7protein, how are others faring? Have grown it now for five years was going to switch to extase but unsure. Last years crop was pretty average and no where near skyfall yields. It would appear...
With the recent hot spell my Mulika has ripened nicely, not fit but some hard some soft grains, it now looks s###e for the next ten days, how long will the hagberg stay above 250? Thoughts please
We have 25ha of ground ploughed in October which was destined to be combi drilled with winters, needless to say it will now be springs. I have not grown springs before any tips??
Been out looking tonight and the difference between drilled Aug10th and three weeks later is staggering, later drilled is being hammered by beetle at 6tl but I can find a few larvae in the odd plant in early planted already ? Would much rather the early slot,
I have come to the conclusion that it’s all about soil moisture, subsequent rainfall, fertility, leaving a longer stubble and planting early to avoid the main beetle migration, unconvinced about cover crops unless it’s clover species, first drilled stuff getting to eight leaves, osr planted...
Without being an arsehole the early drilling slot when there was plenty of moisture seems to have paid dividends, my late planted osr very small and struggling, don’t think companions make much difference although one was on a plant of buckwheat
Early planted Osr seems to have escaped the flea beetle this year for the time being, will be interesting to see how the stuff planted last Sunday fairs, no companion for the later planted but still the same variety
I planted the buckwheat at the same time as the osr, I have two hoppers one for seed and a fert hopper which I used for the companion crop, double rolled and applied 30kg N, we have caught alot of rain here 30mm in the last week so fingers crossed
