We used the 'free' half day tax funded consultation with GSC Grays. Conclusion was, happily, exactly the same as we had deduced ourselves. OR he couldn't think of a better way of doing what we do.
Is there any work to show the level of damage to microbiology of the soil? Urease inhibitor is a toxin to microbes but supposedly short lived. We've seen slight increase in yields since we've been using inhibitor. Genuine question and not defending it's use. We did a lot of work with ADAS years...
I agree but modern management parlance doesn't allow 'negative' statements. You and I would see your statement as logical and good but NFU people don't work like that.
But this is how modern negotiations go. Someone proposes an outright ban on something or an unworkable system. They then sit back and see what counter proposal comes from the opposition. The opposition should push back hard but they say 'thanks for your proposal, we think this alternative would...
As Clive has pointed out several times, High output arable farms a) don't need subs and b) don't find the sfi offers attractive enough to substitute cropping for wild flowers etc. It will be kind of self regulating but to cap area at 25% was a mistake, especially for areas of lower output...
FW is light years from where it was. Not frightened to poke the rattlesnake when required. Doing great editorial work, particularly on RT and GFC issues.
Our local secretary invited me to a local roadshow, despite not being a member. Only 17 people present. However, it was actually quite good, asking lots of questions not just about Assurance but SFI too. Chairman was good, no one was put down or contradicted and he wrote LOTS of notes, no NFU...
My problem is that I don't trust that these seed mixes won't contain blackgrass seeds. I bought some for a strip of land (not in a scheme) from a 'reputable' merchant, it came thick with blackgrass.
The last thing I need is blackgrass on a currently clean farm. Worries me far more than not...
In our situation strip till is fairly foolproof, uses much less fuel and wearing parts and now have little machinery and only 2 tractors (one would probably do). Chop all straw add chicken muck, rake and drill. Output slightly up, big increase in worms. Seems odd that there's no payment for this...
Thanks for your comments. Can't add to pilot, must start new agreement. So to avoid having 3 agreements we were waiting for release of new options summer 24. More fool me! Missed the boat and now in the 25% zone. Of course we keep looking at options but not much of it fits our farming ops. We...
