I placed a thread in the livestock section and now thought I would try here in the dairy as well. I am looking at 3 different mobile cattle set ups on the grant. 2 are straight crushes and 1 is manual squeeze. I wouldn’t normally think about paying another 3k for the squeeze as it will...
We are looking at mobile cattle handling set ups and are trying to decide whether the extra for a manual squeeze crush is worth it for us? At the moment we will use it for just dairy replacements, principally Tb testing, of varied age groups. Wouldn’t normally feel the need for a squeeze crush...
We need to upgrade our water supply which will be a single supply pipe with 32mm spurs, supplied by header tank with booster pump. The shape of the farm doesn’t justify ring main. +/- 200 cows max. I was hoping 50mm would be sufficient but someone whose opinion I value says go straight to 63...
All the years I’ve struggled with front feet in our old Wopa and a pair of these makes it so much more comfortable for the patient. I rarely give an unreserved recommendation for anything I’ve purchased but these are bloody brilliant.
Dragged an old thread up on the livestock forum but thought it might be more appropriate here: Anyone hold strong opinions on the effectiveness of traditional chess board grooving vs Vermot straight lines?
It will be for passageways where cows will walk along the grooves rather than across them.
Looking at the wire spec for the above grant, it states either 4mm plain mild steel or 2.5mm barbed. On first reading I presumed this to be the wrong way round, (I want to put up 2.5mm high tensile plain and dislike barbed with a passion) however I’m concerned if I don’t fit the wire specified...
About to put up a cubicle shed to winter house bulling heifers. Recommendations are for 3'-3'3" centres. I favour the narrower dimension, particularly as the beds will be plenty long enough. Any one any strong opinions?
Question from someone who thought changing the above would be an hours job and now has all the dash and shrouds disassembled, trying to get at it.?
How do you remove the pin at the bottom of the old strut please? It doesn't look threaded, in any way, more like a rivet that needs drifting out?
2006 hydraulic system c/w 5 lanes of scraper saddles/ram boxes on a 6 lane controller. This system has been run as 2 lanes only for most of it's life, hence approx 90m of used track and approx. 120m nearly new track. Still installed and can be viewed working. Open to reasonable offers.
We have a Kuhn 1132 fertilizer spreader, for which I would like to source a complete border kit. When I asked local supplying dealer to quote for one, I was informed that alas Kuhn do not supply them as a retro fit item any more, and therefore they could only make one up from parts by which time...
Going back to parlour feeding this spring and need to order a silo. So, does the assembled wisdom on here recommend either of the above cone angles for a bin which will feed either compounds or bulk blown blends. Advertising blurb suggests 67° but wanted to know whether it was worth worrying about?
Anyone know who supplies the washable ventilation tubes as advocated by, I believe, a buildings consultant from N Wales? He was quoted in the Dairy Farmer magazine a few months back. Can't find anything online, thought someone on here will know who/what I'm on about.
Just thought I would flag this up as a very cohesive, measured and well written piece. Very well done to the author.
I'll leave it to someone with a modicum of IT skills to provide a link and mods feel free to merge if this has already been flagged up elsewhere.
We are looking at some replacement individual calf pens for housing for a short period of time, prior to group rearing on machines and barrels, as part of a system to try and prevent crypto transfer whilst in the first few days. So in trying to do the job as effectively but economically as...
Any recommendations for a sexed Jersey sire to put across a mix of HF and BS heifers? Looking to put some fat in and try something a bit different for us.

Thought I'd give the heads up after sorting the valuations for our latest losses to Mr Brock today. Owing to the latest ruse with Defra whereby we can't get any licenses to move off while reactors are on farm, I called to try and get the paperwork completed asap with a view to getting them gone...
