Regarding fancy schedules.
My job used to have a fancy modified work schedule. Now we're back to pain in the ass old 8 hour days, 5 days a week. Used to do 3 days 13.3 hours a day. Long days, lots of days off.
In agriculture a lot of employees are lost due to the status symbol of your worth is...
1 - People always complaining nobody wants to work these days.
2 - People with a higher turnover because once they’ve trained an employee up they can easily go off and find a higher paying job with their skills.
3 - Fair, market value.
4 - People who are golden employers or just full of sh!t...
All the stuff I mentioned is for if you’re stranded on the side of the road you won’t freeze to death. You’d freeze long before you’d starve or die of thirst. It’s unlikely you’d be stranded for more than a couple of days even in extreme circumstances here but you can easily freeze in a short...
You can certainly take hot drinks when you get in the vehicle. And snacks.
My list was more stuff you put in and leave it there for the season. Could also add in booster cables and tire inflator. Oh and spare washer fluid
At work we were just discussing with the Filipino what his son should have in his car if he’s going to travel between here and the city in these temperatures.
Blankets. Candles. Toques. Mitts. Sweater/Jacket.
Even if you want to dress for looks vs comfort, be prepared anyway. Even if you only...
It’s a joke that you hear all the time when it’s cold. People in other places say “But it’s a dry cold!” like that makes it warmer 😂 The wussy west coasters are renowned for saying it. For some reason you don’t hear the east coasters say it though
I think even if I moved somewhere with more moderate winters I’d still want a somewhat winterized set up.
Buried water. Draining pipes. Insulated buildings. Sure things wouldn’t need to be buried 8’ deep like here or insulated at highest R value or have the heat turned on all the time, but just...
There’s currently 5 of us at work. 1 is a yes man, the other 4 are quite happy to say no, we aren’t available. When we were staffed better, it was still mostly the 1 yes man and then everyone else being reluctant.
More often than not when we do need to do OT, we all predominantly bank the time...
Incorrect.
I have a boss that works on this assumption. We will always be game for any OT because we always want more hours for the extra pay.
Not so.
OT can, and has put me, into another tax bracket. Not fun.
Burn out. If I’m sick of work, I’m sick of work. I want my days off, not pressured...
Doesn’t need to involve names or positions. Can be as simple as “we start paying ay $X amount and increase from there”
And honestly, I could tell you my salary but that’s not going to tell you what I make a year. You’d have to know all my OT as well.
There needs to be more open discussion...
Perhaps one should ask what a skilled employee is willing to work for.
If you know what they’re getting paid elsewhere? or need to get paid, then you have a starting point.
Better toss this in since I said I’d try and keep track of humidity in the cold. Hasn’t really been cold until now.
Lowest I’ve seen it go in this snap has been 69 🙄😂
Car wouldn’t start Friday morning to get to work. Finally got it running now so fingers crossed it starts in the am. Just...
