One technique that might be suitable would be to centre punch the entire area of the shaft where the bearing sits (hundreds of indents as close as possible to each other), completely clean off the entire area with a solvent cleaner and fit bearing with loctite bearing fit.

Claas grease cartridges also full rim tubes so fit and work properly.

Got float switches set up on 5000 litre tank here. bottom switch kicks in the borehole pump, full flow through 32mm pipe and top switch stops pump. Tank than acts as buffer and pump only runs infrequently. If of interest could provide more details and photo's of set up. regards

Thank you Hilly - it was a total punt but it worked a treat. Bought boring tool on e bay and the bearing blocks from bearing boys and rest was just scrap and leftovers so total cost was about £25.
