    Sowing stewardship mixes

I drill small seeds like ab8, grass seeds, stubble turnips with an old power harrow suffolk coulter combination and all the coulter springs removed then double roll. Works a treat. broadcasting onto a rolled surface is also fine but this way saves a lot of time. Ab9 and larger seeds the same...

    Classic reversible

Thanks I just found the thread. Someone posted the sop rule which states any plough pre 76. As the ts 82 was pre 76 and the scn was available for it I think both are allowed.

    Classic reversible

Thanks for your comments. It’s on 14” scn. I think I’ll close it up to 12” and put the tcn on it.

    Classic reversible

Does anyone know what bodies are allowable in classic hand trip reversible class. I have a ransomes ts82 with scn on but also have some tcn bodies I could fit. We are talking ploughing for fun here at local matches. Which bodies would be best?

Fitting category 1 pins to a TS 59

I just ground original cat 2 ends down with angle grinder. Just ground 4 flats onto the pin and then kept taking the corners off until it is round. Then Used a cat 1 to 2 sleeve for a size guide and kept trying it until got a nice fit. Not precision engineering but the end result is fine.

Help with identifying correct size of S tine...

I think it might be this one that Spaldings stock. https://www.spaldings.co.uk/replacement-parts/website/replacement-parts/s-tine-23-x-12mm If you give them a ring they are quite helpful and will probably have a full diagram.

    Ransomes Ts59 YL183

Thanks. I will have to check the wheels settings. I think they are about 54 the back and fronts the same. Rear tres either 11 or 12 inch will have to check. on a dexta. Have been debating bringing fronts in to run against furrow wall anyway.

    Ransomes Ts59 YL183

Ha ha good question and interested to hear opinions. I have modified a Ts59 and found that to get the Plough pulling square I need the front leg outside the frame. That means the only standard width is 12 inch but that was too wide so I spacered the rear leg out to just under 11 inches. It won't...

    Ransomes Ts59 YL183

Very interesting I have been having the same problem with 8 inch shares on 11 inch work. The front furrow breaking up as it passes onto the board. Have tried raising the discs and moving them forward and skimming only the minimum needed. I think I too will try narrower shares Should wet or...

Who's at the national this year ?

It's a shame so many feel that way. I really hope something can be done to change that. Glad to hear grass roots are strong. I have found that to be the case and appreciate all the help and advice offered locally

Who's at the national this year ?

For what it is worth I was there both days. A great event and a terrible shame about the weather for all involved. I felt for the trailing men in particular who were struggling on Sunday in the conditions. Thought the standard of vintage and classic mounted truly excellent throughout. I think...

    Reversable butts

If you change the length and use the same 3:2 ratio then the angle will definitely change. Or if you keep the same angle the ratio changes. To keep the angle the same work out the difference in length between the wide and narrow end at a given length. Then multiply the difference by the change...

    Spring tine identification

i have an old 6ft 21 tine spring tine. It’s quite a heavy 1” 1/2 square solid frame and looks to have had a green frame and yellow tines. Any ideas what it is ? Looks similar to twose but wrong colour and the bars are horizontal and not at 45deg as on twose ones?

    ID plough

It looks like a Ransomes PM plough on epic bodies. One of the first built under collaboration with Ford in the mid 1940's. Its worth what someone will pay, but I cant see it more than a couple of hundred quid on epics with some of the meatal that worn. It is complete with depth wheel discs and...

Difficult Soil at Fairford,Faringdon ,Burford Ploughing Match today 30/9/17

I agree. It will be a while before I am challenging the very best........ although it wont be for lack of trying. But it seems to me the conditions are the same for everyone on the day, so make the most of it. The best men seem to have a habit of pulling it out of the bag in all conditions, as...

    Twose blue paint

thanks agrimax. I contacted McHugh but they said although its in their catalogue they have never stocked it. I have also tried Twose but they don't have a record of the old blue colour either. As you say I might have to pick the best match, so thanks for the suggestions !

    Narrowing frame on TS59

Thanks for the pictures. That is real food for thought because I can see you have made adjustment within the headstock and avoided the problem of the front furrow adjuster needing to slide on the cross shaft. Probably not for me with my TS59 on this occasion.................. but very interesting.

    Narrowing frame on TS59

Great Thanks. That is as I thought, but it is reassuring to hear someone confirm before I get too far down the line.
