The last hose that i had leaking like that , the local hydraulic firm i use cut the steel end off and fitted a compression fitting. That was quite a few years ago and its still okay.
Sometimes,if you give the top of the pump a tap or two whith a hammer it will free the stop valve.
They aren't too difficult to whip the top off and free it, I've done a few in situ
Not tried it myself but was talking to a guy years ago with the same problem on a IH 250. His solution was to make up some hoses on a wet and dry vax and vacuum it out, said that it worked quite well.
Did one on mine last week, pretty straight forward with a little advice on here. I think the shaft is a brilliant idea, ive done 2 so far which could have meant 2 written off beds on another mower and the shaft was fairly easy to get.
Thanks for that
The job has escalated slightly, waiting for some seals and a bearing
I got a bit carried away with my home made slide hammer and pulled the shaft together with the bearing and gear that drives it.
Thanks guys.
Snapped the other one a couple of years ago and it was a doddle to replace, didn't want to start getting rough with it if there was a pin or circlip.
Got a snapped hexagonal drive shaft, the one coming from the gear box on a non conditioner lely mower.
Everything has come apart pretty easily but i cant seem to get the shaft out of the gear box. Is there a pin in the gearbox end or is it just rust holding it ?
Didnt want to get too brutal...

If you take your time all the other tools will turn up on eBay eventually
Think i might know the farm you're taking about, if it is that would be the tip of the iceberg . He had another farm nearby just the same, really nice bloke and if you needed a part,he was the man.
Sometimes my hitch sticks if the spool that pushes the hook out is under pressure,a wiggle on the spool lever usually makes it drop.
You've probably tried that though.
it was fairly local ,my dad found it in a hedge about 30 years ago when they were worth bugger all and as id always wanted one we got it up together and put it in the shed.
The tin work is surprisingly good, apart from the wings but the engine could do with a set of shells. another when i get...
Had one a few years back, but only sucklers here so maybe a bit different to you.
Quite a sensible woman, but knew her from the market so possibly helped a bit.
All that she was interested in was the paperwork side of things, mainly tagging and recording calves which in our case was a bit hap...
