Moving from CS agreement to SFI .

I also got the transfer email today. Have gone back to them to ask if we can do it on a parcel by parcel basis - got some fields in likes of GS6, species rich grassland on priority habitat which pays well and there's no equivalent SFI option, so don't want to abandon that if possible. It will...

    catchment sensitive concreting consents required

Think every planning department are different. You may get lucky but not in Kernow. Been too wet this winter to consider doing anything but this reminds me to try council again or put in as permitted development planning to then get told not needed. At least environment agency did get back to...

    Reseeding existing GS4

Got some older GS4 herbal leys which have got a lot of docks and the % herbs are declining. GS4 says to re-establish the sward if necessary to maintain minimum requirements. Ideally I want to have a break crop, possibly some stubble turnips or rape over the summer, to allow me to tackle the...

RP15 Concrete yard renewal on farm track?

Tried speaking with RPA but didn't seem to be a goer. Probably need to make a bigger mess first and then try again.

    RP5 Cross drains

I was forced by CSF officer to have cross drains in our application in order to get grant for concreting yard but likewise unsure what to do. Google catchment sensitive and crossdrains and you find the CSF guys recommend crash barriers/use them as examples of good practice e.g...

    CS SW9 with SFI SAM3

Regrettably I've got 100 acres in SW9. Would love to put into SAM3 but from my interpretation of the rules, will have to wait out the midtier agreement unless they allow transfers of midtier to SFI which may open up options.

    SFI/Midtier rotational options

I've got field 'A' in midtier agreement claiming GS4 which was established and claimed in previous years. I would like to rotate it to field 'B' as of 1st Jan 2024 which is same size etc. and claim GS4 on my midtier in field B for 2024. I would also like to put field A into an SFI agreement...

    SFI for lowland beef/dairy

Think you must mean NUM3 @£593/ha, not NUM2 @£102/ha to get to average £1491/2 years?

Capital grants - Farming Equipment and Technology Fund 2024

An FOI request as to their costings would interesting to see. What I don't understand is that if they have now capped expenditure at max 50%, then why do they need to be so conservative with their predicted cost of kit? Some items on there are really bizarre, such as calf coats for £11 grant...

    FETF 2024

Looking through it, they've changed payment terms which may be an issue if you were used to looking for opportunities where grant items could be bought for less than their guide amounts: 2023 - 'Regardless of how much you pay for an item, you will receive the grant amount listed, whether it is...

Defra now looking at capping SFI

I think we have more hope of keeping SFI because it is theoretically linked to environmental benefits rather than money for being rich land owners which will never fly again I think. Is government going to say no we're not going to pay you for protecting and enhancing hedges etc.? If SFI uptake...

Solis PV inverters any good ?

I replaced a samil 4kw inverter which persistently tripped the rcd when voltage got high with a Solis S6 and it's been rock solid ever since installing. Basic interface but does the trick.

    Stewardship payment dates

We're still waiting. Mid November they decided to remove all gs4 from our claim because they decided the fields were at risk of soil erosion despite the FER map saying otherwise and them having passed it as ok previously. Think sorting that out has left us at bottom of the pile!

The Beef Tracker thread (no Sheep)

St Merryn now 385p cows, up 20p. Increase much needed but they're still behind last year and the gap to prime is bigger than this time last year when it was 55p apart but currently 105p adrift. I may be wrong but I think it will keep increasing so will keep feeding my cull cows for now.

Defra SFI Webinar - 26th Jan - Watch on Demand

Will capital grant payments see an increase to reflect increased costs of complying/inflation of material and labour costs? It was increased January 2023 alongside revenue increases but nothing has been announced this year for the capital grants e.g. FG2, RP15 etc.

    Ritchie Beef Monitor

Admittedly, the new software is a lot better but it takes 2 weeks to settle down and give data back, so needs to stay with a group. I find it wildly out but think this goes back to design because the cattle love to stand with just front 2 feet on it. Shame because I really like the idea of...

RP15 Concrete yard renewal on farm track?

Been pondering how I can improve my farm track which was never installed all that well to begin with and is now near impassable. RP4 livestock track grant only pays for new tracks and nothing to repair old. On farm stone is OK when laid dry but soon turns to mud in the wet. Concrete is best long...

    sfi you can now apply

Just received first quarterly SFI payment which was a nice surprise. Application went in late September, offer accepted 18th October and payment less than a month later. Hope this continues! Just got 40km of hedges to 'assess' now. Was thinking of traffic light system to keep it simple.
