Anyone else seen his $20,000+ repair job on YouTube? Now I love John Deere tractors; but this video is the exact reason I would be very nervous with a jd combine. The metalwork had always seemed tinny to me and this has done nothing to change my mind. Would it really cost that much in the grand...
Longstaff sale north of Boston today; challenger 765a 8300hrs in nice condition knocked down for 22000 or thereabouts. I paid more for my old 35! The cat D8 with a blade sat next to it made more…I always thought the early 765’s were decent-have they fallen out of favour? Seriously cheap hp…even...
I’ve just gone to move my sprinter and the control box won’t power up at all. Put away a month ago working fine and now won’t even switch on. 12v feed is fine; wiggled everything; no vermin; is there a fuse somewhere/any pointers before I have a proper look tomorrow? Thanks
I’ve got a block of winter barley on some fairly average land which I’m hoping to put into winter barley for the foreseeable future. First time I’ve grown barley and it looks a treat BUT there’s going to be a LOT of straw. It was direct drilled and I’m hoping to do the same again; is a lot of...
I’ve just dragged my old freeflow out of the shed and calibrated ready for a drilling marathon after beet tomorrow; trouble is the manual is in another tractor that isn’t here…I’ve guessed but can someone confirm settings for wheat please-flaps on 3 and 16 turns for the calibration; multiply...
Anyone using one of these for grain? We have a decent fyson (a double hydro one with the slew) but it’s a pain to keep moving sideways/forwards/backwards by hand…plus it takes up way too much space over winter
I’m soon going to drill my AB9 direct but have dead old cover to drill into. I need to cut it as I have a tine drill (sprinter) It will handle alive cover but not dead and brittle. We have an off set flail but it’s only 2m and we have about 5ha now. Wondering about a 3m topper to speed the job...
Thinking aloud now; how about wheat spun on a standing crop of (in my case, beans or wheat) to keep some living roots in the ground in that August to October period? I’m warming to cover crops but not to leguminous ones, ones that cost loads to buy or ones that could present as weeds in...
Went to the tractor yesterday to hitch on a trailer and no matter what I did in the cab I couldn’t get the lift arms right up to release the hitch…max lift height switch works depth control works up/down works but could not get it lifted right up. Had to go outside and do it on the fender...
After a heavy straw yield year like this one, I’m finding over 70% soil cover after the drill (dd) in places. If there’s so little soil visible do you still put a pre-em on and hope it gets washed off the straw onto the soil? Or wait and go peri-em with the view of hitting the grass weeds...
Re-drilling my winter bird cover after it failed. Pale persicaria, redshank and fat hen took over. Sprayed off yesterday, drilled today and despite my bum being clenched for the whole time, I managed to drill 2.5ha with only one blockage. Astonished.
Couple of photos taken today; w wheat after s wheat after beet. LD subsoiled the whole field in the dry (September) and then attempted to lightly level the odd lump with a Rabe FieldBird (short disc type thing). But it was too wet (October) and kept bunging up so I only ended up having a couple...
New to DD and just wondering what people do with headlands/trafficked areas. I’m sure many will say that after a few seasons of DD soil will take it but I’m just starting and have beet in the rotation (which is going in 2 more years unless seed treatments come back). I’ll only DD 2nd wheat...
Morning all; just bought a Horsch Sprinter with the 2 guide wheels up front; instruction manual seems a bit useless-at the ends do you lift the tractor arms up and then drop again in operation and when drilling do you set the arms at a height so the guide wheels have a little weight or put them...
Anyone had any experience of the Metcalfe low disturbance coulters on a freeflow/miniflow? I have a freeflow with weaving sabre tines which is an awesome bit of kit but I want to drill even later for the blackgrass so wondering about a miniflow-does anyone know if the coulter holes in the leg...
