    cattle crush and race

If it doesn't reduce your room for a forcing pen too much, go up both sides. It also allows you somewhere to set down medicines that the cattle can't knock them over or sh!t on them while you're working. Also if possible, incorporate an access gate into the last 7 or 8 feet of the race, that...

out of curiousity what kind of robot are you using? At 14 years have you had to give it much of an overhaul to keep it functioning? This all said at the risk of veering wildly off topic

Honestly I find this attitude appalling. Is it any wonder there's so much poor mental health in farming when people are openly criticising a very successful new dad for taking a day off? It's just possible that your wording could have been better, but come on man, it seems strange to call...

Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

he said in a podcast that he was only a sheep to the acre. Assuming that mean a ewe to the acre then he's about 800 acres at £100 per acre. Maybe he's counting ewe lambs in that too as I think he lambs them as hoggs

Powerquad. I’m not really sure why but it keeps losing D range. I’ve had it rebuilt twice already, most recently it was pretty thorough with someone who is a well respected jd specialist.

What I have gone and done is bought a wee manitou handler. All hydraulic, no electrics, getting fully stripped back to the frame and serviced. Hopefully the 40 series will do a bit more, she’ll have limited if any loader work to do now. The 6620 will just have to be fixed, and hopefully the...

Are those electro command boxes? I’ve found the SLE box in the 40 series to be pretty good, so I was hoping that the electro command could live up to its legacy. ive found occasional issues with the 40 series clutch switch and potentiometer calibration, but thankfully it’s never been something...

honestly I feel more at home in the more old school 5060, so I’m going back on Monday to try the t5 again. Just need to see if the more modern tractor is something I could get used to and learn to enjoy. I suspect I’ll be putting quite a lot of hours onto this tractor in the next few years as...

Folks, thought I’d offer an update and a thanks for all of the great advice. Currently I’m holding onto the jd as its trade in value makes it worth more to us here, and it’s worth putting the money towards it to fix it. The 7740 is looking like the trade in. I’ve narrowed it down to two...

I suppose the missing info here is that I do a fair amount of outwintering. While I try to avoid taking equipment into the field to the best of my ability, I think life without some sort of loader tractor could become very difficult at times. I’m going to ring about a 120M next week and see...

Fair points. Yard work is mostly feeding, scraping, bedding (currently just round bales and a 4 pronged grape). Sheds all reasonably open, or at least they are manageable. Field work primarily tanking, fertiliser, muck spreading, topping, some ploughing maybe (sold the old plough but wouldn’t...

That might explain why the roads here are red with masseys and loaders

Sound advice, but we’re talking 5 years, not 1 or 2. Really I would just like to go out in the morning knowing that one machine will run as it should. I think maybe this is what I meant - I was thinking of the 4 cylinder one. That said, I will probably be looking something 5 or more years old...

That makes a lot of sense, thank you. With regards to the handler, I honestly have no idea what I would look at. I think that maybe one of the front loader type handlers might be best suited to our operation, so that probably means JCB TM or Dieci or something of that nature.

To put it bluntly, I sort of inherited machines that have been abused and neglected. I am not guilt free by any means, but I've only really been in a position to influence day to day operations for the last few years, and any machinery that has been bought in this time has had a much easier...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm definitely a fish out of water on this one. It would be the easiest thing in the world to go and buy a new tractor, not quite so easy to justify it in 2 years time when I'm still paddling upstream just to keep up with payments. I don't think the 3cx will be worth...

I find the 6620 very nimble for the size of her. However when we had the smaller 20 series out on loan I remember it just seeming far less nimble relative to it's size. That was years ago though, I probably wasn't old enough to be driving the damn thing!

Also the 7740 can be fixed with a spanner and a hammer 99% of the time, so I'm loath to let her go.
