Firms have alot of overheads that a one man band with his van doesnt, thats why they have loads of work and nobody wants or can afford dealerships to fix anything.
In what way ? I know self employed mechanics using there own vans and tools on £25-30/hr and a self employed chap working for contractors who ten years ago was on £18/hr because there wasnt anything he couldnt do, hgv licence, vg welder, drive and maintain beet harvesters, combines, drills etc...
Everybody raves about what people should be earning but i remember in the autumn of 2022 talking to a chap driving a hedgetrimmer who that morning along with workmates working for a contractor had agreed a 50p/hr rise and were now on £11.50 self employed . They cant do much else than ag work and...
Depends what you can do, if your just mostly a trailer/tanker/spreader jockey probably min wage or £12-13 self employed. The more you are capable of the more your worth up to about £25/hr for someone who can drive all the kit, fix , service it and foreman abit.
Justifying jobs thats all there doing. Every year i get sent maps from the gas board(cadent) and every year they are wrong and i correct them, last year i didnt bother and a chap rang chasing them up, i pointed out that i correct the maps every year and every year they send the old incorrect...
Heaps of muck would be warm to lie on and keep them up out of the wet, cattle look well and clean. Get a fair bit of leaching from those corals i bet especially during winters like this one. Jammy buggers got a fair pile of gold nuggets stacked up.
I have been buying cake and meal since August and it wouldnt have dropped £20/t . They said there was a 3 million ton corn surplus somewhere but with acres less to harvest this year you just know they will use it as an excuse to keep prices high. Straw is a major major worry
Just shows the agenda doesnt it. The river wye lately has been awarded 35 million which will go towards buffer strips, stopping pollution from farms and sewage etc but alot of the main groups moaning about the wye havent rejoiced at this money because what they really wanted was intensive...
Out of interest what are livestock markets charging those that trade on the market? On one of the sheep games yt posts he bought ewes on the markets finance but i didnt hear what the terms where.
Yes straw for next winter is becoming the main worry for livestock farmers . I think there will be either alot bedded on hay , kept very sh##ty or cutting stock back because of it.
Ask him if you can have them back for the same money he paid but because he turned down your earlier offer your not offering any money for keep. He isnt worth keeping onside if he wants it all on his own terms
Seems alot of farmers advertising for staff so be carefull what you wish for, a good worker could probably have another job within 10 mins of walking away.
Seems to me the EA are saying they have no money due to budget cuts to maintain rivers and they will not allow land owners to touch them either because (1) They want to prove a political point (2) They dont want it to be proved that landowners can do a better job and do it cheaper.
