I find opposite for mine. Having small numbers I hate see them not having a lamb on them for first year. So far even with the prolapse I’m having less issues with ewe lambs lambing than shearlings for their first time
Iv had 2 ewes do intestines out prolapse this year. Had 1 previous many 15 years ago. Only 1 ewe prolapsed this year maybe 6 weeks from due date. The vet stitched the offending ewe lamb yesterday morning and she was pushing her hardest even at bedtime last night. Seems less under pressure today...
They got 3 days off pen strep after lambed and Metacam. This one stopped pushing for a few days but back now. Vets on her way out to stick her properly
Iv a few ewe lambs that’s lambed about a week ago. 1 was lambed by vet and checked all inside and no damage done. But she’s been pressing and pushing a slight prolapse out since. Now tonight in final check another 1 lambed about a week has full prolapse out and seems to have slight tear in it...
It come across to me in the way he worded it they be without water over night as the tanker filled but I’d have thought by the way they come wanting water it was more than just a night
Thanks all. I think Il do abit off both. The few fields with less hedge protection I might graze whole thing then have paddocks set up some more. Doesn’t take long todo as fields aren’t the biggest
Paddocks iv used last few years usually lasted them 4 or 5 days then move to fresh one. Very little acres so fields all pretty close together in one block as such. I’d like idea off grazing while field for abit as in my head it gives them more options to find shelter in bad weather where as if I...
I have grass cover on most fields at moment as been rested since end October or early November a lot off them.if I grass whole fields first time round I wonder will that make lambs easier or harder to respect electric wire
Iv started lambing my flock last week and let first ones outside today. Really want to try to make the best off grass again. Have electric fences already got and used last few years. My question is, is it better to start ewes and lambs on paddocks soon as they be let out in spring, some fields...
Wasn’t going to add to this thread as a lot off people have much worse than me. In past 4 weeks iv had 2 ewe lambs die with listeriosis, 1 with I think was pneumonia. 1 ewe had to be put down on Thursday cause she put her guts out and no way save her. A week ago had a shearling from a batch that...
The outside ones were in spring with lambs at foot. Had lambed maybe a month and were outside getting some nuts in a trough. Other than that just grass. Wasn’t even a wet time from what I remember to have extra messy fields
