Originally it was used for a college project by a family member but then then the family took the decision to build a new unit on a greenfield site. When it was just going to be used for a college project no problem but then to build it in reality, I did/have got in a muddle with it and maybe I...

Yes I know exactly what you are saying and after 3 years I was hoping to have it completed but due to unforeseen circumstances and other matters involving the family it had to take a back seat.

    Drawings please!

I think it would be worthwhile me asking everyone to do a sketch of what everyone thinks is the ideal layout if it was for a greenfield site. With the requirements being for 150 cows and a milking parlour. Looking forward to your drawings!

Why would it be complicated the cows enter the collecting yard from there yard at one end of the shed and then exit the parlour back into there yard at the other end?. Have you got and drawings/sketches for the layout you describe?

    Looking forward to your help!

Ok, I see your point. Have a look at Kevin Lawries dairy farm in Scotland on YouTube because his parlour is in the middle.

Looking at this layout if you have the mirror image of the cubicles and feed fence on the other side of the milking parlour so the milking parlour is in the middle would that not be a good layout?

Dear All, Everyone on TFF has said have all your buildings in parallel, now my last two questions are central feeding passage or perimeter feeding? and what size parlour for one man milking 150 cows? Finally I would like to say a big thankyou to you all.

    Feeding the cows!

Hello All, What are everyone's thoughts/experiences on a drive through central feed passage or feeding on the outside of the shed either with a 2 meter overhang or a fully covered passage for feeding dairy cows, any differences in intakes, wastage etc?

    Which is best?

Thankyou all. I know you are all suggesting a parallel layout but.....I think it's TFF member Eulb who is the only one I'm aware of of a dairy unit layout in an "L shape" that the USA and Dutch experts suggest as they reckon it is better from a ventilation and expansion perspective?!
