Weed control in autumn sown leys
Broadleaved weeds emerging in new-sown leys will reduce the amount of grass that can establish. To optimise the investment in reseeding, farmers should get rid of these weeds by spraying herbicide as soon as the grass shows three true leaves, says Dr Nicola...

Hi TFF,
Just put in 30 acres of grass, power harrow / seed box combination, scratched in by tines on the rear. Herbal ley, with grass, plantain, clovers. Straight into maize stubble, so clean seed bed.
Normally I would ring roll twice immediately after, but heavy rain has stopped play.
It'll...
Hello, I've also posted this in Direct drilling but thought it would be very applicable here too.
I am building a new tine drill, I've got a design in mind but I'm quite undecided on what row spacing to go for.
This drill will be predominantly doing grass work, with a mixture of some wholecrop...

Cereal growers are being urged to consider the benefits of controlling broadleaf weeds in cereal crops this autumn, rather than waiting until spring. Charlotte Cunningham reports. Most growers favour leaving the bulk of weed control until...
Of the acres we have down to grass all but 10 acres is grazed but we do have dedicated silage fields that get grazed as the season goes. Some get grazed well into the new year depending on the year.
Some of the fields can be wet but not heavy soil types and docks are an issue.
I take it theres...
Got a field that’s been grass since I was born that needs a fessed this autumn.
Over summer it was sprayed of and redstart rape drilled to give it a break. Been grazed off once and will have a few more ewe lambs run over it again as a bit of regrow that showing and with today’s rain it should...

Looking to put some rape/stubble turnips in on spring barley stubble. Usually plough and drill conventionally for sheep. But looking to keep the soil structure firmer and try and out winter some suckler cows.
What’s everyone doing to drill theirs?
To tight to get DD in so was thinking a one pass...

Germinal NI is confirming a four-fold increase in red clover seed sales for the first six months of this year, compared to all of 2020.
“Demand has risen on the back of the growth in herbal leys and the fact that many grassland farmers now view...
Planning to put a grass ley in after wholecrop barley. Last year agronomist advised to leave barley stubble 2-3weeks to green up with weeds, then Roundup and drill grass a week later. This meant grass wasn’t sown until early Sept and never really got going last back end, so much so that we never...
Pre emerge didn't work of pdm as was too dry. Too hot and dry for kerb and that didn't work.
Now have a lovely crop of fat hen, sow thistle, chickweed and knotweed.
Graminicides are OK but need something for broadleaves. Was reading in Canada they us salsa, the osr herbicide? Anyone any ideas...
Hello,
I grew a couple acres of phacelia to see if I could harvest the seed just for own cover mixes and also to look well and feed some hives. It didn't strike well and is now full of chickweed and fat hen.
Any phacelia safe herbicides out there?
Muchos gracias.
Does anyone use one of these? I see you can get them up to 25’ thought it might be handy for steep/wet/rough bits mostly using mcpa. Just wondered if they worked well or do they not carry enough liquid for that amount of coverage?
As per question really. Have a few docks, thistles, buttercups (seem to be everywhere this year!) and what I think is a little bit of redshank.
What's the best clover-safe product to hit them. Ley is approx 5 weeks and not too far off being ready to graze.
Have transplanted out my pumpkins and watering them in today. Been harrowing weeds last few years to mixed results. I've read flexidor and kerb can be used over the top. What rates and in a mix together or just pick one? How late can you apply over the pumpkins? And are squash the same? Much...
What would cause twisted awns in winter barley. Had axial pro 2 weeks ago before awns appeared.....su to clean up some chickweed a couple of weeks before that. Could it be lack of boron?
Been given a recommendation for week control in spring barley.
