    The biggest Wheat Ear challenge

A bit of fun here. While out pulling Ryegrass this afternoon I could see that there are a few anomalous wheat plants, usually taller plants with a bigger ear. So I started to look for the biggest one I could find. Here it is, a Grafton Wheat ear at 14.5cm tall, Can you find a bigger one?

    Blackgrass

Just sat pondering the dreaded blackgrass while I enjoy a Saturday morning brew. I have been trying to think of the way the weed grows throughout the season and if it has weakness? For the life of me I can't think what this weakness might be to even begin to exploit this as a means of control...

    Spring linseed advice please.

May end up with some this year, what variety stands/combines easily, etc? Imagine yield percentage is secondary to other factors perhaps, has linseed moved on any in 10yrs since I last had a fairly unsatisfying attempt at it?

    Cleavers

I have a small patch of oats which due to low rate liberator have no weeds👍, except cleavers. I don’t have a starane type product but I do still have a lot of MCPA and 24d which I mix for grass fields. Would on of those or a mix kill cleavers? The labels only talk about perennial weeds🤷‍♂️ tia

Best way to establish a herbal ley?

I am looking at putting together a Countryside Stewardship application for 2022. It includes a lot of low input PP, but I want to put 60/70 acres in to a herbal ley, GS4. These will be in to fields that have been PP for 30+ years, and obviously we will do an EIA to convert it. What will be the...
