Hi all, looking for some advice please.
Having some difficulty with twin lamb, had 5 cases in 48 hours in freshly housed ewes.
Details
Problem specifically in twins. No issues in trips or singles. Twins were on good quality stubble turnips until last Weekend (2 weeks out from lambing)...
We have blood tested our ewes and have came back with mega high levels of iodine and low levels of selenium vet has advised that we jag all lambs at birth with selenium/vit e ewes have been bolused with mayo 4 in 1! Any other suggestions to get Sel into them before lambing without to much...
We ran a small flock (100 ewes) of Lleyn and Lleyn x on permanent pasture ( no forage crops). What are people’s thoughts on mineral supplementation; we are iodine deficient and we do blood test, everything else ok. No hard feed, just crystalyx at critical times, tupping and lambing.
Thinking of using molasses for sheep during tupping until lambing time.
What is the best type for sheep?
United Molasses seem to be the main place to sell it here.
thanks
OK, that time of year again when I am pricing up buckets.
What is everyone getting priced for Crystalyx, Optilyx from Downland and Rumenco Maxx, and how did everyone get on with them last year.
Hearing that Rumenco are a fair bit cheaper but are they as good and as hard as the other two...
Thinking of trying to free up some time for fencing in jan/Feb this year and looking at puting out feed blocks rather than a daily feed of sugar beet pulp pellets.
How does the consumption of the blocks compare? Obviously you can’t really regulate how much they consume…..so how much do they...
I have had my sheep and lambs out for a couple of weeks now and have noticed my pedigree Suffolk lambs have started to get a few white hairs on the top of their heads and on some of their feet as well. Does anyone know if this is a deficiency in minerals? Or what this could be? Thanks.
We’ve ended up getting a lot of trouble with orf on ewes tits. The ewes and jan born lambs are inside and usually stay inside until weaning in late March. Usually we vaccinate lambs against orf at 5 weeks old, but unsure now of the best plan to stop it getting any worse. Any ideas?
Normally get 1200 litres of lick from dennis but away up in price lv heard, not phoned the rep yet, just put it in ball feeders when l start giving them a bale of silage in afew weeks time, but was thinking maybe blocks would just be as cheap, think lick is 90 odd p a litre. I think they do...
Selfish me has converted their hay barn into a house. Doubt I will build them one for a few winters...
So I've nowhere for hay this year. A friend suggested haylage as that could be stored outdoors... Another option would be get a tonne of concentrate each month and store the bags here and...
UK Dairy Day was the event to be at for anyone connected to the dairy industry last Wednesday. The bustling event provided an opportunity to network and do business for dairy farmers and businesses from across the UK.
Over 8,000 visitors attended what really has become the UK leading dairy...
Must be time for an updated discussion on feeding in lamb ewes through the winter and lambing.
Firstly hard feed is not being considered here due to system change.
Not needing the time, disturbance and cost of fuel and wear and tear in ATVs and Snackers. When you add it all in to the...
This is a thread for those who feel guilty about cluttering up dear old GUTH’s beloved price tracker with the chit chat that stop us all being that miserable our families would throw us all out to sit with the dog in the porch. All are welcome, you can even post prices if you want. The only rule...
There must be some clever ideas out there for keeping tools etc tidy in the tub ? Those side swing out boxes seem expensive at over £100, I'm currently using Crystalyx tubs (free), which never arrive in the same place as they were when I set off. :scratchhead:
I’m sorry if this comes across as moaning but I am abit down at moment with one thing and another and this is getting to me badly this evening. Since 1st March Iv lost 5 ewes to identical symptoms and now Iv found a 6th one this evening. Symptoms are, very very wet dribbly mouth. Either no...
'Twas always thus - that 10-14 days in the run up to the start of lambing heralds the onslaught of TLD, prolapses, blown guts, abortions and the 1001 other things that can go wrong with sheep :banghead:
Many moons ago, when I was young and keen, an old bloke once told me, "A farm or a piece...
which would be best?
on grass with rolls and a few fodder beets or
on stubble turnip/rape/kale mix and could be supplemented with rolls and beet if necessary?
