Tractor Chat #01 - with Direct Driller Magazine Farmer Focus writer Phil Rowbottom
Discussing direct drilling wheat, Oil seed rape growing in the UK, Fendt 724 tractor and his Sky Easy Drill.
Come on you farm engineers if you were to build one from scratch
what features would be an absolute must.
Would you choose discs or more of a knife like coulter?
How would you go about designing a drill which would cope with a mixture of cropping
from Cereal, rotational grass ,into cover crops...
From some conversations I’ve had recently, I’m getting the feeling there’s some panick in businesses that rely on farming customers that large scale SFI options could become very popular.
For instance, suggesting that it wouldn’t be moral, or that you wouldn’t be a real “farmer” if you take...

Given the highly variable field conditions across the country, devising an effective spring fungicide programme may feel like an insurmountable feat. Although it’s difficult to predict impending disease pressure with so many unknowns, CPM...
You are a cereal farmer so understand all the pressures farmers in general are presently under. Your videos over the last 2 years have highlighted things like high fertiliser prices, low market prices, high machinery prices etc and it gives your none farming viewers an understanding of what we...
During Covid, the supermarkets were started on a path of 'pre-competitive collaboration'.

we havnt had a good ploughing vrs DD dust up for awhile :sneaky:it all seems dominated by the politics of rt nfu et al
Please excuse the direct question.
But if you were given the chance to enter a contract share farming agreement on a block which would have to be regeneratively farmed, would there be a margin to be split , so as a contractor I would see a profit to pull on first charge after doing it for cost...
Following on from a thread about mole ploughing, how many of you plough with draft control turned off?
I’ve always ploughed with it off, not wanting to jack the plough out a bit through a tough patch just for a bit of extra grip, having a tractor properly ballasted and on top of the job.
Looking at a KV TS for a specific project drilling mainly into unmoved ground. I see they can be fitted with a narrow tungsten point. Are they worth the extra spent?
