When farming( tenant farmer),a lot of the farms soil was very stony as per pictures attached.
Strangely enough I think the Amazone combi drill with Suffolk coulters straight behind the plough press gave us the most even seeding compared to other drills we had, had.
Just wondering what drill you...
I should really know the in depth answer to this but don’t so looking to the experts.
I know stress has a factor as well as time but with a slow spring do we get a later heading date?
Bit of a silly question but basically would a 6 cylinder 150 hp tractor use 50% more diesel than a 100 hp 4 cylinder both doing the same work say a 3m power harrow in same conditions. Roughly same age of tractor’s.
With a supreme bout of optimism, I walked a couple of my grass fields today as I thought, foolishly as it turned out, that maybe I could travel with the baby compact tractor and the even smaller single rotor disc spreader. 100kg at a time. It really would be great to spin a bit of fert on to get...
Another soaking yesterday and not looking like any planting in the next two weeks with 170 acres unplanted which might not get done , how much is left to do , I recon most people around here are 1/2 to 3/4 planted at best.
How late have people gone, and still got a successful crop, obviously so many variables but interested in experiences had....direct drilled into terminated cover crop too.

According to College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprises (CAFRE) crops advisors, spring barley seed may be in short supply this year.
This is a direct consequence of the widespread poor harvest conditions that characterised last year.
According...
With the cut off date looming we have managed to spread most of the urea in store however we have a bit left that was destined for sp crops post emergence .We have a field of sp barley to go in and another of failed/drowned wheat to replace ,some has been ploughed and some cultivated earlier...
The imperfect storm continues.
Little carry over from damp harvest 2023.
Autumn cereal drilling spoilt by rain.
Autumn crops that were drilled have struggled.
Spring cereal seed barely worth planting.
SFI or fallow are an option many have embraced, very wholeheartedly.

SFI unravelling as the policy makers realise food might be in short supply and as of yesterday (25th March) not taking land out of food production is suddenly important to the government.
Is it important to the population as a whole to have home grown food production subsidised?
What should SFI...
Evening,
Does anyone have any experience of the Kubota M6 002 range?
Looking for a loader tractor which will undertake yard loader duties, mow, spread fert, slurry, mow and cart a lot of round bales. Essentially an all rounder.
Just had a 132 on demo and it's a nice enough tractor. Might just...
Going off the back of the recent news from Defra and reading the current thread about it it would be interesting to see exactly how much land people where actually considering taking out of production.
Thers a lot complaining about not being able to enter more than 25% into the 6 options that...

what happens now?,,,,are we?
1/supposed to put 25% of land into conservation then take that money and subsidise food ergo putting it mr tesco's pocket?
2/ have 'bird cover entitlements' been created so...
Treated myself to a new workbench - about 4m wide, legs each end (of course) and support legs in the middle. All steel, box legs and steel shelf under the 10mm top (which doesn't look thick enough, but heyho!). It replaces a very old wooden bench which could be on its 4th generation of...
