    Anyone remember?

Today it was raining v heavy and for some reason I happened to think about flotation tyres for spring work. Does any of us on here remember an article about flotation tyres in the FW or even Big Farm weekly about a chap that fitted very large flotation tyres to a ford 46? From memory they were...

When to start putting N on wheat?

I was always told that February nitrogen flattens crops. RB209 recommends nothing until the start of stem extension, and not before early April, unless it has low tiller numbers. Yet everybody else seems to start chucking it on now and their crops look strong and green where as mine look crap...

Top Pottinger ploughs take to the land

Written by Justin Roberts from Agriland Big tractors pulling big ploughs need big wheels, or even tracks, to apply the available power to the ground. This, however, will often mean the wheels are too big to fit in the freshly ploughed furrow, which can cause compaction of the freshly turned...

Does combining grain maize play havoc with the combine?

I ask the above after picking a maize cob today, and I believe the crop is destined to be combine harvested with a maize header on the combine. I guess one has to have the concave wide open to get a Maize cob through it. Also I imagine the grain maize might cause one grief as regards getting it...

No apologies for the late arrival of four-wheel drive

Written by Justin Roberts from Agriland Strange as it may now seem, four-wheel drive in the Ireland and the UK was often considered an unnecessary gimmick – right up until the early eighties. Even when its virtues were reluctantly being recognised it was only considered worthwhile on tractors...
