Starting to get a little worried now. Spring seed might be short... Weather doesnt look great on the forcast - given how sh!t harvest was, could we be in for just as bad an autumn?
Has anyone ever autumn established SFI AHL2 after a crop off winter wheat, grown fast seeding crops such as mustard and then gone into a spring barley late March early April?
Probably a good reason why it isn’t being done!
Putting it in this forum due to the wider implications. Lots of livestock coming up for sale in Ireland it seems.
239million euro loss to the economy per year or they need an extra 69 million acres to spread existing livestock numbers over to reduce the nitrogen usage...
What's the most the high yielding people on here have fed to their cows? I've gone up to 13kg before but was wondering how much more I could push it? Will be for cows doing 50-60 if not more litres
They'll be having 3-4kg rolled wheat, 4kg soya hulls and 1.5kg of hipro soya through the parlour...
I'm short of silage for the winter rather than grazing. for Suckler cows so my current plan is to mix silage and straw but for 75 cows I'm not quite going to have 2 bales silage per day + straw (they would normally eat 3 per day)
ideally want to drill winter wheat into the stubbles. maybe into...
Currently feeding maize, barley soya and straw and urea to beef cattle. But the maize is going fast and im looking at options to bridge the gap til next maize harvest.
Usual options of Hay more straw etc. but is there another cost effective route?
I appreciate different parts of the country...

Let’s start a harvest 23 thread! So how far do we all think we are from starting? Winter barley rapidly ripening here early start is on the cards. First week of july maybe, rape just starting to lose its greenness also!

Robotics in industry and agriculture has been talked about for decades but their actual appearance outside of doing repetitive tasks on the factory floor has been slow in materialising.
This is a situation which is now changing rapidly within...
Would ewe lambs winter ok on Rape / Kale? They will not be inlamb. Looking something to grow them on and winter grazing is hard to get around here.
how many per acre would it graze roughly and for how long?
I think my faithful gleam has had its day. What's looking the standout wheats and barleys on your farms - what's covered the ground well and avoiding the diseases?
Please can anyone share their experience of grass staggers with me? I have just lost my 6th animal (cattle) in the last few weeks. The youngest was only 6 months old and the oldest around 10 years. Some with a calf at foot, others not. My vet has indicated grass staggers yet both a blood test...
We are very reliant on contractors for all of our silage and until recently there has been a choice of operators with round balers with choppers on.
Now we are down to just one with a combined baler/wrapper with a chopper, which we find is by far the best for feeding sheep.
Yesterday not long...
