    Farmer Focus - Andrew Jackson

Farmer Focus - December 2021 Harvest has come and gone. Yields were good but could have been better had the growing season not been so variable. We had trimmed our Nitrogen rates to 160 Kg/N/Ha for wheat and OSR, but huge swings of yields within the fields told me that the yield had not been...

Being lazy here, anyone done the rough cost of each, got the kit to do both, clamp tieing up two good barns that could house young stock or straw, have to find an extra set of hands to run trailers for clamp. Use thick side sheet and double top sheet in clamp, use 6 layers of wrap on the 6...

    Taking out shuttered wall

We’ve got to take out 6, 15ftx8ftx 10inch shuttered walls. Don’t really want to peck them out incase it’s rattles the shed to bits! We got a price off a pro to cut them out but think we could do it a lot cheaper ourselves (may regret this 🙈). Could use a stihl saw but it’ll be to cut from both...

So that my wagon/ tractor would be instantly compatable with others. I'm guessing it's a 3/4" female for the return.1/2" female for the pressure connection...

SPFH Claas 840 or JD 8100?

Looking at a new 'farmer-sized' SPFH. The Claas 840 is 400 HP, JD 8100 380, both smallest models. Had a price for the Claas, JD yet to quote. If prices are similar, which way to jump? Both dealers are local and excellent. (Forage wagon or contractors won't work for us).

New Self Propelled Forage Harvester for a Farmer?

We cut 800 to 1000 acres of silage a year. We have plenty of labour, regular and family, and are currently running a 1998 Claas 850. She is in good nick, on about 5500 hours, but we do have regular breakdowns, which involve 6 or 7 blokes watching and scratching their arses as it is mended. I...
