    New Building

I am looking for someone to give me some help in locating a new barn. I go round in circles in my head about where one should go, but I can not make up my mind. Main farm is tenanted, AHA, and landlord is happy for me to stick a building up. This would be the obvious place. Though I may prefer...

    Diatomaceous earth- natural silicon

Is it bad for beneficial insects? I’m trying it for the first time this year on brassicas against flea beetle, I’m happy with the theory behind it but now the agronomist is suggesting it’s actually harmful to beneficials in the same way as it is used as a grain store insecticide. Is he right or...

On Farm Opinion: Keeping the combine moving

Written by CPM Magazine from CPM Magazine Download PDF A larger combine can be preferred to a new drying system, the extra output making it more feasible to wait for ideal cutting days and sub-15% moisture, however, coping with incoming grain can be challenging. CPM learns how a pair of...

Even I'm shocked by 50's farming

Great clips of 1950's farming. Parents talked about similar but I thought it was just them who were behind. Amusing shots of the spraying, no gloves, no mask, no cab, spraying herbicide with the stock in the field & the very optimistic narrator. In that period machines must have been obsolite...

    Self build sheds

With the price of new sheds always climbing I wondered on building my own. Got all the facilities and good welders on hand. Is there a booklet or information available anywhere for steel sizes and pitch for various sheds? Might be going up to 100’ spans so not wanting to get the wrong size steel...

    Weatherproofing concrete walls

Tend to get damp ingress through the walls in our grain store especially through any joins. Causes the grain against the wall to get damp and a bit mouldy. Is there a product that I can paint on the exterior of the wall to make it waterproof?

Moving an existing roof mounted PV array to a new roof top.

Hi, as the title suggests, has anyone had the experience of moving an array, but still kept the output and the F.I.T. going successfully?, We would like to put a shed up next year on the south side of our existing grain store, (and possibly a bit higher also). The new build would have an effect...

Best £50 I have spent on a machine

Got this at LIDL last year. I have used it for sweeping thorns off road after hedge cutting. Blowing dust and chaff off the combine. Now using it for cleaning out grain dryer and grain store. Blowing 20 years of crap off the baler. Can any of you do a better bargain?
