I see a senior NATO admiral reckons we will be at war with Russia within 20 years and that conscription will have to return to make up fighting force numbers.

Baled my 50/50 red clover and grass mix around 5 weeks ago now and was wondering how long clover needs to ferment properly or if it’s ready now? Ready to use it as soon as it’s finished fermenting

With soil moisture levels high this summer, accurate application of product is the key to controlling burgeoning slug populations, urges a molluscicide expert.
This includes the calibration of spreading equipment, says Adama’s Andy Bailey. “Wet...

Today we've published a handbook containing all the detailed information about the sustainable farming incentive offer for this year.
The handbook is here:

An overview blogpost is here...
this should be funny but has creeped the sh!te outta me.....someone introduced me to an 'AI writing thingy'.....in fun i asked it to 'write a funny poem about an incompetent sheep farmer'
in a land of sheep there was a farmer called jim......whose farming skills were rather grim.

Declining to pay a pennie of inheritance tax, clogging up the news with continual shyte about the coronation, demanding folks swear allegiance at their TV, 5 robes stitched of gold all In the middle of the alleged cost of living crisis, Vegan quiche, mates with Schwab. Can’t be long before...

Aye - up,
We have a ewe (daughters hand reared pet, so don’t suggest culling!) which has had a little foot problem for months.
She holds it up when standing, but isn’t lame at any time.
It started months ago with a small hole in the soft, bottom pad of her foot. There was no infection or...
He obviously got out of the bed the wrong side (as my Mum would say).
My Reply:
I wish to reply to David Buttle in last week’s edition.
As a cereal grower I home-save and also buy-in seed. Almost without exception the home saved is better quality, mainly due to fact that it has been over a...
No mention of the supermarket dominated food system. Using the term: "producers aren't able to pass these costs on" and: "the last thing anyone wants is for consumers to have to pay more" and best of all "We must keep poduction levels up"
Not a word on her non farming paymasters paying more for...

I should imagine that most dairy farmers have, at some time, had a downer cow. There can be several causes and level of damage but the end result is usually a cow housed on straw or sometimes outside, who can't get up. I would also imagine that in many cases we know what the outcome is going to...
Kit Papworth
If you read the link, he says...
"I am keen to discuss the issues around equivalence to imported grains and to explore how inspection can be made less challenging for growers.”
Good start. Let's hope Kit can find a sensible solution (y)...
Why is this never discussed? Why is it always farming land that has to be re-wilded?
Is it because a lot of the people who support re-wilding also like horse riding. Surely a hobby shouldn't carry more weight than feeding a nation?
Started spring barley yesterday, Laureate. Yielding pretty well and nice looking sample, but the straw is a dusty pink - is this drought stress or a varietal characteristic?
