    Wheat with Clover

What would your strategy be with this, its wheat after a 3 year grass/clover ley. Not had any N yet and was grazed for a month with sheep. The clover is still there and feeding the wheat I would imagine?

    Broadway/pacifica cold nights

what are peoples thoughts/experience of spraying the above with cold temperatures at night? Damage to crop or reduced control.

    Wholecrop choices.

Wanting to reduce meal use next winter. Suckler to beef and sheep enterprise. No grain storage facilities. Wanting to grow grain and put in silo along with grass. What are the pro's and cons of wheat versus osts versus rye. Never grew grain before, educate me.

    Wheat, chems and cover crops.

Planning chemical strategy with the agromonist this afternoon and it seems to be a nightmare planning grass weed control with following crops. I've direct drilled wheat after grass and needs a tidy up for grass weeds. Normally Othello or hatra or the such will do it but because I want to plant a...

    Spraying fungicide and side effects

Hi all, We're moving onto a small acre of land with a house in the middle, surrounded by fields. Cabbage and wheat I think. Please excuse my uneducated stance and questions but I'm struggling to get info from the local famers. Lived in the area for 17 years but this new house is just outside...

The on-going up hill battle that is agriculture.....

It would appear iam not alone in having difficultly getting and keeping decent staff? Is it a nation wide issue or more regional? Wheres the best place to find the unicorns that maybe out there? Also, machinery price increases are a constant issue to us. I know theres nothing we can appear to...

    Nitrogen 3rd pass

What’s everybody doing? Our milling winter wheats were planted mid October to mid November and so far had 165kg N. We are due another 80kg (liquid) to go for group 1 spec but whilst the calendar says go the crops I think are a month behind due to the dry spell. N2 went on a month ago but it’s...

    Biostimulants

What are people's views/experiences of using biostimulants as a replacement for fungicides? Particularly Scyon. I questioned the inclusion of it from agronomist today and said it would replace ctl.

Spraying with a frost at night.

Got some fungicide, growth reg and manganese to go on wheat and barley but keep getting -1 for a few hours early morning. I’m holding off at the moment, are people still spraying and do they have any bad scorching

Mixing anything with spring Grassweed herbs in wheat

I know we were always told not to mix CTL and PGRs with Atlantis etc and I have always followed this (don't need a PGR after anyway!) with the exception of trace elements but there's a windy week in prospect and late drilled ww has some YR so dare I add a splash of teb with the horus? Thanks

Know it's miles early. What's he collectives thoughts now CTL has passed on. Is Iodus (Laminarin?) any use on Septoria and Mildew (plenty of peatground) or is it a case of Folpet with fingers firmly crossed? In the West so Septoria is the main target.

    Wheat rolling after freeze

Hello, I have wheat at tillering stage and it got freeze injury. It has 3 tillers, sown october 5 2020 and got very extensive leaf necrosis. So it is in stress now and would be ok for rolling or i have to wait.

    Regional words, terms and phrases.

Good afternoon, I've been a long term follower of the farming forum, as a new start some of the things I've learnt have been truly priceless. One thing that has struck me though, is every so often I will find a word, term or phrase that I'm just not 100% on what it means. This isn't limited to...

    State of your crops?

Given the late drilling date and the amount of rain that’s gone on them I’m pleasantly pleased with the state of my crops. I do have two small fields that are below par but most are looking well. How are others looking? Wheat and barley below, no rape this year but locally it looks well.

    Adjuvant advice

Hi Lads ,, I know this subject has been covered before but can anyone tell me if there’s an adjuvant that covers all so to speak! I spray @ 95—100 Ltrs per ha and have used Kantor and torpedo 11.... I’m thinking mainly fungicides... validate any or much different to torpedo? Thanks for any replies.

    Bull calves

How do I persuade someone to set up a little bull calf enterprise? The problem we have always had is the big companies will take the best calves or will make promises and then not collect for 2 weeks - cost falls to us. I'd much rather set up an agreement with someone locally who could take...

    Barley volunteers in wheat

Due to the last 12 months weather my already shattered rotation means I've followed sb with wheat ( didn't want to grow it ) anyway we sowed 3 days after finishing combining . So we have a volunteer issue , is frost my friend ? doesn't appears to be any chems available that will kill the stuff.

Following on from Andrew Howard’s article in direct driller (I think he’s on here but can’t remmeber his handle to tag him) I am going to do a 36m trial of early drilled wheat. the trial area is post OSR, was chicken mucked then drilled with a catch crop of buckwheat linseed and sunflowers...
