On bloomberg now

I have taken out all the windows for a restoration on my John Deer 1630 and was wondering when I refit the windows what to use? Modern sealant rather than the weird stuff they used back in the 60's and 70's. I was thinking silicon but for some reason I think that there maybe something better.
