How long should it take for a heifer to "take" a calf. I'm not into suckling but had a couple of heifers turned out incalf. One calved on Saturday but calf never got up and died . New calf put on Sunday but she only lets it suck when mealed. Will she ever take to it?
Are there any traps on the market that could be used to move these on? I know there’s licence to shoot them but just wondered about other methods. A larger ladder trap maybe? They’ve never been a problem before but can’t let a lamb hit the ground outside and they’re on the scene taking tongues...
Had a calf this morning to a.4 year-old Hereford heifer. First calf. She is mothering calf but won't let her suckle. I have given calf two volosturns. Mother will nurse lick etc but as soon as calf goes to udder she head buts away. Have stripped mother. No mastitis but she kicks a but. Help?
The last few years have seen extreme weather conditions across the UK. From seemingly unending drought during summer, to long dry spells followed by exceptional rainfall in spring. As our weather becomes more volatile, how do we remain resilient when we cannot predict what the future might hold...

Hello,
We need your help!
Yesterday I got a call from our dairy cooperative. Antibiotic residues had been found in the tank. I couldn't believe I had made a mistake. But tested the suspected cow and the rest of the milk again in the evening. Both turned out positive. That meant there were more...

Hi I'm just wondering how can milk tests(solids, tbc, scc)etc can vary so much from test to test.when nothing changes in routine or feed.is this normal or is it just me.
Thinking of having a go at breeding some tups to breed to sell at my local tup sale, I’m thinking pure beltex and a few Charollais ewes to breed some char x beltex tups. They'd be naturally done and I’d take lower prices for a few years to build up a returning customer base. I have a few...
I have a ewe who 3 weeks post lambing I found lying in the corner of field. I thought it was mastitis so treated for that. 24 hours later she wasn’t able to stand up. 6 days later she is still living, belly shuffling around but still won’t stand. She has had a course of antibiotics, pain relief...

90 days fully housed*apart from 2023 spring*
