Dutch Openers; single and double row 5" openers.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the benefit/drawback of these two. I used to like the original duetts on a Horsch CO which banded the seed, so similar to the open backed single dutch. Or is rowing the seed into 2 rows better? Many thanks.

    History of the GD

Written by Tony Gent With over 60 years of farming, I have seen and been involved with so many changes, as a lad from working with horses and leaving school at 15 to working on my father’s smallholding with only 50 acres and a mix of cropping. The farm began to mechanise and expand, so did my...

    Establishing Catch Crops

I'm planning on drilling some catch crops after OSR and Winter Oats this year, but am wondering how to best get them established? I'm worried about volunteer OSR out competing the catch crop, so would it be best to wait for a chit of Rape volunteers, then either spray them off or take them out...

    Direct drill

Hi new farming forum. I have a mixed farm with about 300acres of arable. I’m looking to buying a second hand direct drill for a 150hp tractor. I seen the old blue and yellow Claydons for sale. Are these worth looking at. Or what other drills are there for 150hp can pull.

I'm in my fifth year of strip tilling following a more traditional plough/power harrow based system. I had some decent results in the first few years but the last two wet autumn /winters have not been so great. My main problem is the blackgrass is getting out of hand, I don't think my...
