    Ryetec Maag SSP drill

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts on these drills? Seem to have been around for a few years now and not much info or opinions out there on them. They appear to be a decent drill, and individual coulter depth is a big positive, but always good to hear opinions...

    Manufacturers equipment and technology fund

I hoped to use the grant to buy a sim tech drill direct drill, the cheap poverty spec box drill, they were about £24K last year, just got a price and they're now £35k and I can't afford one. I know steel and labour have gone up but that looks like profiteering and a perfect example of how any...

    7310r or 6250r?

Weighing up our options, currently running a 7310r as our prime mover but we only really need the power for 3 months of the year. Thinking a 6250r with the new hyd boost may be a more versatile option? Needs to be able to pull a 6m horsch sprinter on 5"dutch coulters well which is about as hard...

    750a distribution head

Hi a while ago some one put a picture up showing they had moved the distribution head up inside the hopper to help with seed stalling in the pipe but I have search and can not find it any one know where it is and if the idea worked thanks

    Sprinter vs Sabre Tine

Currently considering a 6m sprinter on dutch/metcalf etc, but also giving consideration to Sabre tine (new type 4 row prob front tank). Anybody run both? Would be used either as direct drill or on very lightly cultivated ground? Sprinter would need full width packer for depth.
  10. Bury the Trash

    Basic.

I can't see that buying Aitchison's even with the grant is a viable option to get hold of a drill to use and imo they are too expensive for what they are ,especially if not used much relatively speaking. Metcalfe bits seem a bit favoured even though slightly dearer and the plan would be for...

    Horsch Avatar v Horizon dsx

The JD 750a has served us well since our transition to no til. Now in it’s 10th year we’re looking for a change. The 2 front runners are the Avatar and the Horizon dsx; both look very capable drills. Horsch appear to have the greater market share but is it any better? Has anyone had experience...

    Any Claydon users out there?

I'm struggling with my Claydon to get it to bury the seed and not block up at the same time! It runs fine and the soil flows through the leading tines and the seed Coulters. But the final row of ' boards' as I call them just don't fill in the troughs made by the Coulters and when you increase...

Lowering the seed rate for drills on wide row spacings?

Currently running a Horsch Sprinter on 1 inch Dutch openers for all my drilling. Has anyone on similar wide rows reduced the seed rate? I’m thinking as the seeds are much more concentrated in the narrow row compared to most drills they will be over crowded and outcompete each other? The last...

    Horizon DSX experiences

Has anyone got experience of the Horizon DSX. It’s new to the market but has some smart ideas across the drill and £/m seems reasonable. Just wanted to know if those ideas and cost actually come together to make a decent direct drill. I’m on clay ground and looking to drill into a mixture of...

    DD / Strip till

I remain baffled as to why more farmers aren't adopting less power consuming options for establishment of their crops. If output can be maintained then why not? It really does slash fuel, machinery and labour costs and, in our case, not had any impact on yield. Having said that, we considered...
