I need to make a 4" hole through a stone wall for a vent. Stone/ rubble wall is 2ft thick and probably a mish mash of all sorts of crap. Does anyone know if core drills can do it nicely? Need a long bit! - Possibly could drill from each side if a pilot hole

    Times Leader

Read this leader in today’s Times … especially the sentence I have highlighted Aren’t you delighted that not only has the cost of living taken money out of ordinary folks pockets and put it in to ours but we are the source of all Britain’s pollution woes (or so you’d think reading this guff)...

    Largest Arable Field in England

It’s a bit random, but I’m doing a local history on the British and World Ploughing Championships held in Shillingford, Oxfordshire and wonder if someone has any knowledge or point me in the right direction. The field used in these contests - 1956, 1993 & 1999 now known as Plough Field has been...

    Well done AHDB

Well done to @AHDB for engaging with us all on here. They have answered some fairly tough and agressive questions on why we should pay levies and the need for an increase in the levies. They have certainly gone up in my opinion, as I was beginning to think we would be no worse off if we lost...

    Retrofit grain cooling floor

For 30yrs+ we've perservered using pile dry pedestals in our bulk grain store. It's a 70wide 90 long bulk store split down the middle, with the dryer front centre, and a door to either side of the dryer. This makes it a bit of a chew pushing the heap up, but we manage. There are no overhead...

    Madness, or just common sense?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-67540190 On the face of it, madness. However, given more thought, maybe not. Presumably a ban would just have created a new black market, funded criminality, extra burden for customs, etc. So why not keep it under control and use the revenue for the...

    Low volume ventilation

We will be building a new 2500t flat store very shortly. 4.5m storage depth. I need some low volume ventilation and prefer the idea of ducts rather than any type of pedestal, what can you recommend? Thank you BB

Removing warm air from grain store?

How do you remove warm air from your grainstore/s that is being sucked out of stored grain by pedestal fans? Do you just have large vents at eaves height in say every other bay and at both ends? Or do you have large fans on the vents to suck /push the warm outside? Store size in question up to...

Legalties of owning a farm 360

Sort of promised myself a digger for my 60th birthday. Thinking 6 ton 360 ideally would be wheels but most are on tracks, so it will be tracks. I take it the driver needs a certificate of comptence & insurance, anything else. I'm approaching 59 but the right machine is available locally, I...

    Would this work?

I do some contract combine for a guy who grows around 250 acres of wheat, he just stores it in 1 shed with pedestals and has no drying facilities. Some of the grain came in at 18%, and he asked me whether he should put a space heater in the shed to dry the air for the pedestals to get the excess...

    Grain pedestal temperature controller

With the current electric prices being high what are people using to turn their fans on when the air temperature is low enough to do some good? Had a quick look on amazon but not too sure what I want. I have a mixture of single and 3 phase fans. Thanks in advance Ben.

    Grain store power supply

I’ve got a new on floor grain store going up at the moment. It will be complex and expensive to connect to the grid and so I’ve planned to install a generator. This will be fine for lighting and the roller shutters but I’m not sure how it will work with the cooling fans. I prefer to use...
