I can't be one to complain because we had a lovely 7mm last weekend but the wind soon took it away.
But had hopes for this weekend tho forecasters have put us just on the side of any of the proper rainfall.
So who has had meaningful amount of rainfall,,,,,,,,, 2mm so far and hoping for more
We rolled everything after drilling and all looks fairly good apart from one block which was abit wet.
Due abit of rain tomorrow so I was thinking it may be worth rolling everything again to encourage tillering and breaking up a few clouds where it was direct drilled wet. This is for spring...
Usually have just over half my expected tonnage on fixed price contract. Customers are expectedly unwilling to sign up. McCains have reputedly cut everybody back 20-25%. What is everybody doing?
Probably not the only one in this position.
We generally use Urea and at the moment no rain ? and been warm and sunny.
The situation I have is wheat has only had 40u and its sulphur, half S Barley (now emerging) has had nothing, 2nd half S Barley, I had the sense to put a 3rd of its N in...
Don’t worry, not all in the same field!
in an effort to avoid blanket usage of glyphosate I may have missed a few patches of bg in my stubbles which were direct drilled with spring wheat, the spring wheat has come through nicely, had avadex pre em and was due to have liberator and picomax but...
So I plant just about 14 acres on my family’s small farm. Gonna plant conventional corn seed. Got the field ready and was gon spray with trizmet and atrazine pre emergence. Does this sound acceptable? Then do I have to wait 7-10 days before planting the conventional corn? Any input would be...
I am putting 300ltrs 30N +11S on 1-3 leaf wheat in the hope we get some rain tonight (it looks less likely every time I check the forecast...) They are now talking of it getting to 18C today, and there is not a cloud in the sky. Pictured is one of the thinner patches and one of the better but...
Still having a large debate with myself about how much of the wheat to do with Broadway Star (Avocet actually). For two years now I have not spotted both wild oats and meadow brome despite walking fields what I thought was quite carefully. Walked round with an experienced agronomist and we...
Got our maize drilled last week, very early I know but it's done well the last 2 years drill in a similar window.
Blue plastic, with a selection of pioneer varieties.
Got a problem put A point in and B point in at other end of field, the field is straight as you can get finish the headland back to A point then drive up to other end but it is about 1.46 m out when checked with tape measure . Last year in the same field I thought I would borrow a friends...
Would it be ok to spread ground limestone on top of freshly sowed beans. Contractor was late coming to spread yesterday. So I would have to spread it on top of the ground now and not incorporate it. Or not spread it at all. Can spread it today. Also need to spray pre emerge on as well.
I have stack of it in the store but I am feeling like it’s too late for it. Too dry. My WW is 2 leaf and under stress. My spring barley just drilled, not up, soil not settled yet and a windy weekend forecast which could blow the soil around. Very little rain forecast here.
Forget it or still...
I'm pretty ignorant on spud growing, so please bar with me. I need to source seed for 1 acre of potatoes for harvesting June/July onwards. Hand sown on high pH soil & fairly low input. No current potato equipment available though I'm hoping a mate will be able to hire me a ridger.
What...
So as a lot of us im very tired of spending money on chemicals and not seeing a return for it .
i would like to just bang on a pre emergence and let nature take its course as often the margins dont justify and expenditure after that .
can i buy chemicals wihout been bullied into forking out my...
Anyone else thinking we could do with a nice little soak nothing major? Nothing in the forecast for the next two weeks.
we’re good and f**ked if the drought starts this early.
hoping this might take minds awar from the virus
Drill the field as normal and roll it. Then sow grass seed and roll again. Obviously don't put any pre emerge spray on. Be careful with herbicides as don't want to kill clover. I didn't bother with weed spray last year.
I sow ours with a einbock grass rake with seedbox on it
